Background: Burns can cause patients significant pain at the time of injury and during subsequent treatment. Other people's pain often elicits empathic responses in observers. However, effective emotion regulation strategies are needed to manage personal distress, which may otherwise inhibit helping behaviour.

The lived experiences of homeless and unstably housed women, including their health-related priorities, are understudied in smaller metropolitan and rural communities. In this study, we partnered with a day center for women who experience homelessness in Spokane, Washington. We used Photovoice, a community-based participatory action research method, to explore the health-related concerns, needs, and behavior of women who are homeless or unstably housed.

Objective: Empathy is the ability to understand and respond to another person's experience and is an important skill for maintaining good relationships across the lifespan. Past research has predominately relied on self-report measures of empathy in examining the impact of ageing on empathy, potentially contributing to the very mixed findings in this area. We aimed to examine the effects of age on empathic ability.

Unlabelled: Academic literature has long associated autism with empathy deficits. Although this view has been attenuated over time to include only cognitive empathy, earlier perceptions continue to influence popular representations of autism and screening/diagnostic tools. As a result, empathetic autistics may be prevented from accessing diagnosis, and those with a diagnosis may experience internalized stigma or violence under the guise of therapy.
