Introduction: and importance. Schwannomas are benign tumors that often occur in the medulla spinalis. It arises from the Schwann cells which form the sheath of peripheral nerves. Schwannomas comprise about 30% of primary intraspinal neoplasms and approximately 75% in intradural, 10% intra-extradural, and 15% extradural. Purely extradural schwannoma is rare.
Case Presentation: We present two adult males with extradural thoracal schwannoma. In this case, the main complaint is paraparesis and followed by suffered low back pain and spastic. The initial symptoms of this tumor depend on the level of the tumor location. Usually begins with localized pain, sharp and transient, followed by radicular pain and radiculopathy. We reported cases of schwannoma of the thoracal spine that have presented with neurological involvement. As a result of contrast, an MRI of the spine showed tumor extradural mass lesion extending from thoracal 1-2 vertebral and thoracal 4-6 vertebral level.
Clinical Discussion: The location of this tumor is rare because located in the extradural (15%), which are present between the bone structure and the dura. Surgery is the treatment of choice, in this case, usually results from excellent prognostic. This patient underwent hemilaminectomy and complete surgical resection.
Conclusion: Early diagnostic and complete surgical resection before the occurrence of severe symptoms will show an excellent prognosis.
Purely extradural spinal meningiomas are rare and often confused with metastases and schwannomas. Only a few cases have been described in the literature, and they are located mainly in the cervical and dorsal regions. We present two cases of extradural meningiomas, one well-defined nodular growth present at a cervicodorsal junction that was confused with schwannoma preoperatively and the other typical meningioma extending both intra and extradurally in the upper dorsal spine.
Introduction: Giant extradural thoracic schwannomas are very rare tumors in the pediatric age group and often occur together with neurofibromatosis. Giant schwannomas span across more than two vertebral segments and have an extraspinal extension of over 2.5 cm.
Background And Importance: Surgery of jugular foramen tumors (JFTs) often requires vascular control by means of ligating the internal jugular vein and sigmoid sinus (SS) to allow intrabulbar access. Occlusion of the SS traditionally involves presigmoid and retrosigmoid durotomies allowing introduction of ligature devices, predisposing to cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leakage and pseudomeningoceles. We describe a simple and novel endoluminal sigmoid sinus occlusion (ESSO) technique with Gelfoam that is entirely extradural.
Introduction And Importance: Spinal meningiomas are typically intradural lesions. Some may infiltrate the dura mater, thus exhibit direct extradural extension. Pure spinal epidural meningiomas are very rare.
Background: Extradural arteriovenous fistulas (AVFs) of the cervical spine are extremely rare, and typically manifest as slowly progressive myelopathy caused by mass effect. This is a unique case of extradural AVF of the cervical spine manifesting with purely radicular symptoms and treated endovascularly with coil and liquid embolization.
Case Description: A 55-year-old woman presented with neck pain and right upper extremity radiculopathy persisting for 9 months.
