Forest spatial structure (FSS) directly reflects resource competition and growth space distribution among different trees. The characteristics of FSS play an important role in mastering the growth status of ecological forest, formulating stand structure regulation measures, and improving forest quality and ecological services. In this study, seven plain ecological plantations including , , , , , , and in Tongzhou District, Beijing were selected as the research objects. The spatial structure characteristics of plain ecological plantations were evaluated by aggregation degree, angle index, neighborhood comparison, open degree, canopy index, competition index, edge benefit, and spatial structure comprehensive index. The horizontal distribution pattern of stand was well, with the aggregation degree of 0.32-1.41, the angle index of 0.4, and the neighborhood comparison mainly around 0.5. The vertical distribution pattern of stand was not well and needed to be improved, with the open degree of 0.19-0.52, most canopy indexes of about 0.7. The competition index presented a high competitive status with the all values of >50. Except the comprehensive evaluation index of plantation presented in grade Ⅲ, the other six kinds of plain ecological plantations fell to grade Ⅱ, with low stand openness and low vitality. The comprehensive evaluation indices of FSS followed the order of > > > > > > .

The natural suitability of human settlements is greatly influenced by the distinct ecological environment and natural conditions of the plateau area, which are of great eco-environmental significance. 32 counties in China's Western Sichuan Plateau were chosen as the study's research subjects. The evaluation index system and weight of the natural suitability of human settlements were established, along with the obstacle degree model, using the analytical hierarchy process, the entropy method, and the integrated weight method.

Driving force analysis and multi-scenario simulation of landscape ecological risk in the Jianghan Plain, China.

Sci Rep

Hubei Key Laboratory of Biologic Resources Protection and Utilization, Hubei Minzu University, Enshi, 445000, Hubei Province, China.

As a key food production base, land use changes in the Jianghan Plain (JHP) significantly affect the surface landscape structure and ecological risks, posing challenges to food security. Assessing the ecological risk of the JHP, identifying its drivers, and predicting the risk trends under different scenarios can provide strategic support for ecological risk management and safeguarding food security in the JHP. In this study, the landscape ecological risk (LER) index was constructed by integrating landscape indices from 2000 to 2020, firstly analyzing its spatiotemporal characteristics, subsequently identifying the key influencing factors by using the GeoDetector model, and finally, simulating the risk changes under the four scenarios by using the Markov-PLUS model.

Understanding the geochemical mechanisms governing hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)) in groundwater is essential for mitigating health risks. However, the processes driving Cr(VI) accumulation and migration in loess regions remain insufficiently understood. This study investigated the occurrence, release, and migration mechanisms of Cr(VI) across different groundwater environmental units (GEUs) in the south-central Loess Plateau, China.

Flow cessation leads to severe degradation of river corridor landscape structure, habitat quality, and ecological functions. This study focuses on the representative river with ceased flow in northern China, the Yongding River plain section. Utilizing long-term, high-resolution satellite remote sensing imagery and the InVEST model, we analyzed the spatiotemporal evolution of landscape structure and habitat quality (HQ) before and after river corridor flow cessation over the past 50 years.

The water quality and associated ecological risks in subsidence water bodies formed by underground coal mining are an increasing global concern. However, long-term water quality changes in these subsidence water bodies, especially across different spatial regions, remain poorly understood. This paper, by mapping the Forel-Ule index (FUI) a key indicator of water color, using Landsat datasets to reveal the dynamic evolution of water quality in 402 subsidence water bodies in the Huang-Huai-Hai Plain of eastern China from 1990 to 2020, covering their life cycle from formation to extinction.
