Dental unit water content and antibiotic resistance of and species: a case study.

Background: Many studies consider the contamination of dental unit waterlines (DUWLs), but few of them have studied the possible presence of antibiotic resistant in the DUWLs.

Aims: Investigation of the presence of and spp. strains in DUWLs and evaluation of their resistance to six antibiotics (ceftazidime, netilmicin, piperacillin/tazobactam, meropenem, levofloxacin, colistin sulfate) at a public dental clinic in Milan, Italy.

Results: Dental units were contaminated by with loads of 2-1,000 CFU/L and were mainly located on the mezzanine floor, with a range of 46-54%, while spp. were primarily found on the first and second floors, ranging from 50 to 91%. was antibiotic resistant in 30% of the strains tested, and spp. in 31.8% . Cold water from controls was also contaminated by these microorganisms.

Conclusion: Monitoring antibiotic resistance in the water and adopting disinfection procedures on DUs are suggested within the Water Safety Plan.

Background: Despite many years of investigation into mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and their potential for treating inflammatory conditions such as COVID-19, clinical outcomes remain variable due to factors like donor variability, different tissue sources, and diversity within MSC populations. Identification of high-risk oral leukoplakia (OLK) using combined Raman spectroscopic analysis of brush biopsy and saliva samples: A proof of concept study.

The gold standard method of diagnosis of oral leukoplakia (OLK) is a tissue biopsy followed by histological examination. Raman spectroscopic studies of cytological brush biopsy and saliva samples have previously been shown to differentiate low (no and mild dysplasia) and high risk (moderate and severe dysplasia) OLKs, discriminant models of cellular samples achieving higher specificity, whereas those based on saliva samples achieved higher sensitivity. The current study combines the spectral data sets of cell and saliva samples in an attempt to improve the overall efficiency of the discriminating models.

Importance: The effect of adjuvant chemotherapy following resection of pancreatic adenocarcinoma after preoperative (m)FOLFIRINOX (combination leucovorin calcium [folinic acid], fluorouracil, irinotecan hydrochloride, and oxaliplatin in full or modified dosing) chemotherapy on overall survival (OS) is unclear because current studies do not account for the number of cycles of preoperative chemotherapy and adjuvant chemotherapy regimen.
