Over the past two decades, peer support providers have increasingly formalized their roles in the addiction treatment workforce through credentialing and professionalization efforts. Despite these advancements, misconceptions regarding their professional identity persist and contribute to challenges such as burnout and high turnover. This commentary underscores the importance of viewing the peer workforce as an emerging profession using a lens that has previously been applied to other healthcare service roles.

Since the description of the operon in 1961 by Jacob and Monod, transcriptional regulation in prokaryotes has been studied extensively and has led to the development of transcription factor-based biosensors. Due to the broad variety of detectable small molecules and their various applications across biotechnology, biosensor research and development have increased exponentially over the past decades. Throughout this period, key milestones in fundamental knowledge, synthetic biology, analytical tools, and computational learning have led to an immense expansion of the biosensor repertoire and its application portfolio.

To date, 770 million people worldwide have contracted COVID-19, with many reporting long-term "brain fog". Concerningly, young adults are both overrepresented in COVID-19 infection rates and may be especially vulnerable to prolonged cognitive impairments following infection. This calls for focused research on this population to better understand the mechanisms underlying cognitive impairment post-COVID-19.

Glycosylation is one of the most fundamental biochemical processes in cells. It plays crucial roles in diversifying plant natural products for structures, bioavailability and bioactivity, and thus, renders the glycosylated compounds valuable as food additives, nutraceuticals and pharmaceuticals. Moreover, glycosylated compounds impact plant growth, development and stress response.
