Xanthoxyline (), a small natural methyl ketone, was previously reported as a plant growth inhibitor. In this research, related methyl ketones bearing electron-donating and electron-withdrawing groups, together with heteroaromatics, were investigated against seed germination and seedling growth of Chinese amaranth () and barnyard grass []. The structure-activity relationships (SARs) of methyl ketone herbicides were clarified, and which types and positions of substituents were crucially important for activity were also clarified. Indole derivatives, namely, 3-acetylindole () and 3-acetyl-7-azaindole () were found to be the most active methyl ketones that highly suppressed plant growth at low concentrations. The molecular docking on the 4-hydroxyphenylpyruvate dioxygenase (HPPD) enzyme indicated that carbonyl, aromatic, and azaindole were key interactions of HPPD inhibitors. This finding would be useful for the development of small ketone herbicides.

The electronic nose is an increasingly useful tool in many fields and applications. Our thermal electronic nose approach, based on nanostructured metal oxide chemiresistors in a thermal gradient, has the advantage of being tiny and therefore integrable in portable and wearable devices. Obviously, a wise choice of the nanomaterial is crucial for the device's performance and should therefore be carefully considered.

The natural products industry is gaining increasing interest, not only due to modern lifestyles becoming more aware of environmental and sustainability issues but also because of the loss of efficacy and undesirable side effects of synthetic ingredients. This pioneering study provides a comprehensive comparison between extracts obtained from wild and commercial samples of Linnaeus, highlighting their multifaceted benefits in cosmetic applications. The antiaging potential of acetone (70 and 90%) and ethanol 60% extracts from wild and commercial samples of , focusing on their application in cosmetics, was explored.

The evolution of high-performance electrode materials has significantly impacted the development of real-time monitoring biosensors, emphasizing the need for compatibility with biomaterials and robust electrochemical properties. This work focuses on creating electrode materials utilizing single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs), specifically examining their dispersion behavior and electrochemical characteristics. By using ultrasonic waves, we analyzed the dispersion of CNTs in various solvents, including N, N-dimethylformamide (DMF), deionized water (DW), ethanol, and acetone.

This study explores the innovative potential of native lignin as a sustainable biopolyol for synthesizing polyurethane aerogels with variable microstructures, significant specific surface areas, and high mechanical stability. Three types of lignin-Organosolv, Aquasolv, and Soda lignin-were evaluated based on structural characteristics, Klason lignin content, and particle size, with Organosolv lignin being identified as the optimal candidate. The microstructure of lignin polyurethane samples was adjustable by solvent choice: Gelation in DMSO and pyridine, with high affinity to lignin, resulted in dense materials with low specific surface areas, while the use of the low-affinity solvent e.

The high abundance of acetone ((CH)C═O), which makes it a good candidate for oxygenated molecules, and the high reactivity of oxygen atoms in the first excited state O(D) are two well-known facts in the chemistry of the atmosphere. In this research, we prove that the singlet oxygen and acetone system is capable of proceeding through multiwell multipath reactions, leading to the production of several organic aerosols. Hence, the nature of species released by the (CH)C═O + O(D) reaction to air can be clarified by profound attention to the possible routes.
