Mobility spectrum analysis (MSA) is a method that enables the carrier density (and mobility) separation of the majority and minority carriers in multicarrier semiconductors, respectively. In this paper, we use the -GaAs layer in order to demonstrate that the MSA can perform unique facilities for the defect analysis by using its resolvable features for the carriers. Using two proven methods, we reveal that the defect state can be anticipated at the characteristic temperature Tdeep, in which the ratio (RNn/Nh) that is associated with the density of the minority carrier Nn, to the density of the majority carrier Nh, exceeds 50%. (1) Using a -GaAs Schottky diode in a reverse bias regime, the position of the deep level transient spectroscopy (DLTS) peak is shown directly as the defect signal. (2) Furthermore, by examining the current-voltage-temperature (I-V-T) characteristics in the forward bias regime, this peak position has been indirectly revealed as the generation-recombination center. The DLTS signals are dominant around the Tdeep, according to the window rate, and it has been shown that the peak variation range is consistent with the temperature range of the temperature-dependent generation-recombination peak. The Tdeep is also consistent with the temperature-dependent thermionic emission peak position. By having only RNn/Nh through the MSA, it is possible to intuitively determine the existence and the peak position of the DLTS signal, and the majority carrier's density enables a more accurate extraction of the deep trap density in the DLTS analysis.

Complete 2π cycling of a phase around a phase singularity leads to a rapid phase variation in the nearby zones and forms a sharp local -vector peak. In this paper, the intensity distribution in the spatial domain is transformed into a -vector distribution in the wave vector domain, and we prove that the local -vector peak is generated at the point of minimum light field intensity. The local -vector peak is sharper when the minimum point is closer to the phase singularity.

A major uncertainty in predicting the behaviour of marine-terminating glaciers is ice dynamics driven by non-linear calving front retreat, which is poorly understood and modelled. Using 124919 calving front positions for 149 marine-terminating glaciers in Svalbard from 1985 to 2023, generated with deep learning, we identify pervasive calving front retreats for non-surging glaciers over the past 38 years. We observe widespread seasonal cycles in calving front position for over half of the glaciers.

The current intense study of ferroelectric nematic liquid crystals was initiated by the observation of the same ferroelectric nematic phase in two independently discovered organic, rod-shaped, mesogenic compounds, RM734 and DIO. We recently reported that the compound RM734 also exhibits a monotropic, low-temperature, apolar phase having reentrant isotropic symmetry (the I phase), the formation of which is facilitated to a remarkable degree by doping with small (below 1%) amounts of the ionic liquid BMIM-PF. Here we report similar phenomenology in DIO, showing that this reentrant isotropic behavior is not only a property of RM734 but is rather a more general, material-independent feature of ferroelectric nematic mesogens.
