This paper presents the results of tests on the fabrication of welded joints in S1300QL steel according to the requirements of ISO 15614-14 and ISO 12932. The butt-welded joint without bevel was made from 350 × 150 × 8 mm sheets. The welding process was carried out at the hybrid welding (laser-MAG) station. MAG means metal active gas. The test welded joints were subjected to non-destructive and destructive testing. Visual and radiographic examinations were carried out. The distribution of HV10 hardness was determined in the weld, the heat-affected zone, and the base material. The microstructure of these areas was also analysed for the presence of hard and brittle hardening products and non-metallic inclusions. Tensile strength and yield strength, as well as bending strength, were assessed in the mechanical property tests. The impact test was performed in accordance with ISO 9016.

In this study, the melt pool formation behavior of high-speed laser-arc hybrid welding of aluminum plates was simulated using finite element analysis (FEA). To evaluate the heat input efficiencies of the laser and arc, standalone laser or arc welding experiments were conducted using the same arc or laser processing parameters as those employed in hybrid welding. These experiments were also simulated using FEA to calibrate the laser and arc heat adsorption parameters.

Forging additive hybrid manufacturing integrated the high efficiency of forging and the great flexibility of additive manufacturing, which has significant potential in the construction of reactor pressure vessels (RPVs). In the components, the heat-affected zone (HAZ, also called as bonding zone) between the forged substrate zone and the arc deposition zone was key to the final performance of the components. In this study, the Mn-Mo-Ni welding wire was deposited on the 16MnD5 substrate with a submerged arc heat source.

This paper provides a detailed analysis of the operation of representative forging tools (in the context of using various surface engineering techniques) used in the process of the hot forging of nickel-chromium steel elements. The influence of the microstructure and hardness of the material on the durability of the tools is also discussed, which is important for understanding the mechanisms of their wear. The research showed that the standard tools used in the process (only after nitriding) as a reference point worked for the shortest period, making an average of about 1400 forgings.

Large enhancement of ferroelectric properties of perovskite oxides via nitrogen incorporation.

Sci Adv

January 2025

State Key Laboratory of Advanced Welding and Joining of Materials and Structures, School of Materials Science and Engineering, Harbin Institute of Technology, Shenzhen 518055, China.

Perovskite oxides have a wide variety of physical properties that make them promising candidates for versatile technological applications including nonvolatile memory and logic devices. Chemical tuning of those properties has been achieved, to the greatest extent, by cation-site substitution, while anion substitution is much less explored due to the difficulty in synthesizing high-quality, mixed-anion compounds. Here, nitrogen-incorporated BaTiO thin films have been synthesized by reactive pulsed-laser deposition in a nitrogen growth atmosphere.

In a slim-floor structural system, beams and slabs are placed at the same level, reducing the overall floor height and material usage in vertical structures, thereby improving economic efficiency. The use of slim-floor structures is common practice in Finnish construction where these structures are typically constructed using hollow-concrete slabs and welded steel box beams. However, in Finland, only a few buildings utilise cross-laminated timber (CLT) slabs in slim-floor structures, and none have incorporated the composite action between CLT and steel beams.
