Leishmaniasis is a neglected tropical disease that kills more than 20,000 people each year. The chemotherapy available for the treatment of the disease is limited, and novel approaches to discover novel drugs are urgently needed. Herein, 2D- and 4D-quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR) models were developed for a series of oxazole and oxadiazole derivatives that are active against , the causative agent of visceral leishmaniasis. A clustering strategy based on structural similarity was applied with molecular fingerprints to divide the complete set of compounds into two groups. Hierarchical clustering was followed by the development of 2D- ( = 0.90, pred = 0.82) and 4D-QSAR models ( = 0.80, pred = 0.64), which showed improved statistical robustness and predictive ability.

Persistent organic pollutants (POPs) are a group of organic chemical compounds. Contradictory results have emerged in epidemiological studies attempting to elucidate their relationship with breast cancer risk. This study explored the relationship between dietary exposures to multiple POPs and ER-positive breast cancer risk in the French E3N cohort study, using three different approaches to handle multicollinearity among exposures.

Social withdrawal is a widespread phenomenon among adolescents, presenting significant challenges in understanding its aetiology and dynamics. This study, drawing on data from two cross-sectional surveys conducted in 2019 and 2022 on students in public upper secondary schools, investigates the trend of self-isolation among Italian adolescents before and after the COVID-19 pandemic. The two nationally representative samples comprise 3273 and 4288 participants, respectively, with 46.

Single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) is invaluable for profiling cellular heterogeneity and transcriptional states, but transcriptomic profiles do not always delineate subsets defined by surface proteins. Cellular indexing of transcriptomes and epitopes (CITE-seq) enables simultaneous profiling of single-cell transcriptomes and surface proteomes; however, accurate cell-type annotation requires a classifier that integrates multimodal data. Here, we describe multimodal classifier hierarchy (MMoCHi), a marker-based approach for accurate cell-type classification across multiple single-cell modalities that does not rely on reference atlases.

This study has developed a pressure sensor array based on four functionalized DNA-nanoenzymes with catalase-like activity for multiple detections of foodborne pathogens through a portable pressure manometer. Benefiting from functionalization of 4-mercaptophenylboronic acid and β-mercaptoethylamine, the diversity of nonspecific interactions between four DNA-nanoenzymes and each of the nine bacteria leads to differences in pressure response patterns by catalyzing HO to generate exclusive "fingerprints". As effective statistical tools for processing multivariate data, principal component analysis and hierarchical clustering analysis are employed to identify nine foodborne pathogens by analyzing pressure response patterns.

African mole-rats (Bathyergidae, Rodentia) are subterranean rodents that live in extensive dark underground tunnel systems and rarely emerge aboveground. They can discriminate between light and dark but show no overt visually driven behaviours except for light-avoidance responses. Their eyes and central visual system are strongly reduced but not degenerated.
