In view of a result recently published in the context of the deformation theory of linear Hamiltonian systems, we reconsider the eigenvalue problem associated with the angular equation arising after the separation of the Dirac equation in the Kerr metric, and we show how a quasilinear first order PDE for the angular eigenvalues can be derived efficiently. We also prove that it is not possible to obtain an ordinary differential equation for the eigenvalues when the role of the independent variable is played by the particle energy or the black hole mass. Finally, we construct new perturbative expansions for the eigenvalues in the Kerr case and obtain an asymptotic formula for the eigenvalues in the case of a Kerr naked singularity.

We performed the first simulations of accretion onto the compact objects in the Reissner-Nordström (RN) space-time. The results obtained in general relativity are representative of those for spherically symmetric naked singularities and black holes in a number of modified gravity theories. A possible application of these calculations is to the active galactic nuclei with their powerful jets and outflows.

Extremely high-Q microresonators provide an attractive platform for a plethora of photonic applications including optical frequency combs, high-precision metrology, telecommunication, microwave generation, narrow linewidth lasers, and stable frequency references. Moreover, the desire for compactness and a low power threshold for nonlinear phenomena have spurred investigation into integrated and scalable solutions. Historically, crystalline microresonators with Q ∼ 10 were one of the first material platforms providing unprecedented optical performance in a small form factor.

Context: Landscape fragmentation, which has demonstrated links to habitat loss, increased isolation, a loss of connectivity, and decreased biodiversity, is difficult to quantify. Traditional pattern-based approaches to measuring fragmentation use landscape metrics to quantify aspects of the composition or configuration of landscapes.
Objective: The objective of this study was to examine the relative improvements of an alternative activity-based approach using the cost of traversing a landscape as a proxy for fragmentation and compare it with the traditional approach.

Objective: To estimate the health economic value of postdischarge oral nutrition supplement (ONS) consumption among elderly adults who were malnourished during hospitalisation.
Design: A cost-effectiveness model was developed from a US payer perspective based on a recent meta-analysis of randomised trials of nutritional support following hospital discharge and studies of US hospital mortality, readmission rates and costs.
Participants And Setting: The target population of this study was postacute care US patients aged ≥65 years who were identified as malnourished during hospitalisation.
