Fifteen compounds including one flavanone hesperitin (), two cinnamic acid derivatives as ()-4-hydroxycinnamic acid () and ()-ferulic acid (), eight polymethoxyflavones (PMFs) (-), and four hydroxylated PMFs (-) isolated from orange peel were subjected to antibacterial evaluation. Compounds - exhibited wide-spectrum antibacterial effects against four test strains involving , , subsp. (), and Meticillin-resistant (MRSA) with minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) ranging from 0.0312 to 0.125 mg/mL. In contrast, all PMFs showed weak antibacterial activity against these four strains with MICs being equal to or more than 0.125 mg/mL. Hydroxylated PMFs demonstrated better antibacterial effect against relative to PMFs. In addition, the synergistic effect against was obtained when compounds and were combined. Furthermore, the scanning electron microscopy (SEM) results of treated with both compounds and showed shrunken and rough surface morphologies, indicative of the cell membrane damage.

Key Laboratory of Three Gorges Reservoir Region's Eco-Environment, Ministry of Education, Chongqing University, Chongqing, 400045, China.

Ciprofloxacin (CIP) and oxytetracycline (OTC) are commonly detected antibiotic species in breeding wastewater, and microalgae-based antibiotic treatment technology is an environmentally friendly and cost-effective method for its removal. This study evaluated the effects of CIP and OTC on Scenedesmus sp. in the breeding wastewater tailwater and the removal mechanisms of antibiotics.

Recently, 3-D porous architecture of the composites play a key role in cell proliferation, bone regeneration, and anticancer activities. The osteoinductive and osteoconductive properties of β-TCP allow for the complete repair of numerous bone defects. Herein, β-TCP was synthesized by wet chemical precipitation route, and their 3-D porous composites with HBO and Cu nanoparticles were prepared by the solid-state reaction method with improved mechanical and biological performances.

A label-free, flexible, and disposable aptasensor was designed for the rapid on-site detection of vancomycin (VAN) levels. The electrochemical sensor was based on lab-printed carbon electrodes (C-PE) enriched with cauliflower-shaped gold nanostructures (AuNSs), on which VAN-specific aptamers were immobilized as biorecognition elements and short-chain thiols as blocking agents. The AuNSs, characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM), enhanced the electrochemical properties of the platform and the aptamer immobilization active sites.

Pathogenic intracellular bacteria pose a significant threat to global public health due to the barriers presented by host cells hindering the timely detection of hidden bacteria and the effective delivery of therapeutic agents. To address these challenges, we propose a tandem diagnosis-guided treatment paradigm. A supramolecular sensor array is developed for simple, rapid, accurate, and high-throughput identification of intracellular bacteria.
