The aim of this study was to assess the resistance of bovine mastitis isolates from farms in Bulgaria to different classes of chemotherapeutic drugs by comparison of some phenotypic and genotypic methods by means of Cohen's kappa statistics. The study comprised 546 milk samples from subclinical and clinical mastitis at 14 farms from 9 districts in the country. A total of 92 strains were isolated from tested samples and identified by PCR. The results demonstrated high levels of resistance to sulfadimethoxine (87%), followed by resistance to penicillin (33.7%), erythromycin (13%), streptomycin (8.7%), tetracycline (6.5%) and gentamicin (1.1%). The comparison of both phenotypic tests with respect to 9 antimicrobials revealed strong agreement with kappa coefficient 0.836. An almost complete agreement was evidenced between phenotypic resistance to penicillin and gene presence, to methicillin with gene, to tetracycline with genes, but the agreement between erythromycin resistance and genes presence was moderate. This study was the first to demonstrate discrepancy between the behaviour to cefoxitin in the disk diffusion test and oxacillin in the MIC test for an isolate shown to carry the gene in the subsequent genetic analysis. Considering the detected discrepancies for some of isolates, an integral evaluation through phenotypic and molecular methods for monitoring of antimicrobial resistance of is recommended.

Introduction: Useful germplasm for citrus breeding includes all sexually compatible species of the former genera , and , now merged in the single genus. An improved knowledge on the synteny/collinearity between the genome of these different species, and on their recombination landscapes, is essential to optimize interspecific breeding schemes.

Method: We have performed a large comparative genetic mapping study including several main clades of the genus.

Introduction Dermatophytes are the most common cause of superficial fungal infection. They are mostly diagnosed using phenotypic methods, but recently the molecular methods seem to be gaining ground. The objective of the present study was to compare the phenotypic and genotypic methods of identification of dermatophytes and understand the feasibility of using molecular methods for routine diagnosis of dermatophytosis.

Background: Arthrogryposis-renal dysfunction-cholestasis (ARC) syndrome, a rare autosomal recessive disorder, exhibits genetic heterogeneity with the VIPAS39 gene pathological variants being a distinct contributor.

Results: We present two related patients from Kosovo, describing the clinical, genetic, and therapeutic aspects of the syndrome. The identified novel VIPAS39 pathological variants (c.

Sex identification in farmed fish is important for the management of fish stocks and breeding programs, but identification based on visual characteristics is typically difficult or impossible in juvenile or premature fish. The amount of genomic data obtained from farmed fish is rapidly growing with the implementation of genomic selection in aquaculture. In comparison to mammals and birds, ray-finned fishes exhibit a greater diversity of sex determination systems, with an absence of conserved genomic regions.

Paternal exposure to high-fat diets or individual fatty acids (FAs) including arachidonic acid (AA) modifies progeny traits by poorly understood mechanisms. Specific male reproductive system FAs may be involved in paternal inheritance, as they can modify a range of cellular components, including the epigenome. Our objective was to determine FAs in compartments of the male reproductive system that potentially affect ejaculate composition-right and left testicular interstitial fluid (TIF), vesicular gland fluid (VGF), and epididymal adipose tissue (EAT)-in mice exposed to AA or vehicle daily for 10 days ( = 9-10/group).
