Canals and canalized rivers form a major part of surface water systems in European delta cities and societal ambitions to use these waters increase. This is the first assessment of how suitability of these waters can improve for three important uses: transportation, thermal energy extraction (TEE) and recreation. We assess suitability with Suitability Indices (SIs) and identify which alterations in the water system are needed to improve SI scores in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, and Ghent, Belgium. The results show spatial variability in suitability scores. Current suitability for transportation is low (SI score = 1) to excellent (SI score = 4), for TEE fair (SI score = 2) to excellent (SI score = 4), and suitability for recreation is low (SI score = 1). Suitability could improve by enlarging specific waterway dimensions, increasing discharge and clarity, and by enhancing microbiological water quality. The same methodology can be applied to optimize designs for new water bodies and for more water uses.

Objectives: Skeletal indicators of developmental stress are commonly used to assess health, disease, and patterns of morbidity and mortality in past populations. Incorporating information about individual life history, such as adverse life events, allows for a more thorough understanding of their etiology. This paper adopts the double lens of ontogeny and the life course to analyze indicators of developmental stress in relation to known individual pathologies and developmental patterns of the cranium, vertebrae, and long bones.

Introduction: External ear malformations represent a spectrum of congenital anomalies that may involve the external auditory canal (EAC), tympanic membrane (TM), or associated structures. A rare anomaly, the EAC skin wedge, results from incomplete canalization during embryologic development. This report presents the clinical presentation, diagnostic evaluation, and surgical management of this condition.

The recently described tomato mutant, which has a variegated leaf phenotype, has been shown to affect canalization of yield. The corresponding protein is orthologous to AtSCO2 -SNOWY COTYLEDON 2, which has suggested roles in thylakoid biogenesis. Here we characterize the mutant through a multi-omics approach, by comparing mutant to wild-type tissues.

Background: Intraventricular hemorrhage is a calamitous type of stroke where bleeding into the ventricular system can be defined as: primary, if confined within the ventricles; or secondary, due to intracerebral hemorrhage extending from adjacent parenchyma. Intraventricular blood clot can lead to secondary insult and inflammatory responses that culminates in hydrocephalus as the most common cause of death.
Purpose: THerein, we report a patient with a high modified Graeb scale and low Glasgow coma scale.

Introduction: While vaginal agenesis most often occurs with an absent or rudimentary, nonfunctioning uterus, it may also occur with a fully developed uterine body. In these scenarios, anastomosis of the functional uterus to a neovagina allows for both egress of menstrual blood as well as potential preservation of fertility: case reports exist of spontaneous conception following creation of a neovagina. However, prior attempts at anastomosis have all included delayed surgery with anastomosis to the uterus several months following the creation of the neovagina.
