Context: Women versus men have more Salt sensitive blood pressure (SSBP) and higher stimulated aldosterone (ALDO) levels, suggesting that their increased SSBP is secondary to a relative hyper-ALDO state. Contrariwise, men versus women have higher sedentary ALDO levels.
Objective: Thus, the present project was designed to address the question are women versus men in a relatively hyper-ALDO state?
Methods: 363 women, and 483 men were selected from HyperPATH cohort to assess the potential underlying mechanism for observed sex differences.

The incidence of chronic kidney disease (CKD) is increasing worldwide, but there is no specific treatment available. Therefore, understanding and controlling the risk factors for CKD are essential for preventing disease occurrence. Salt intake raises blood pressure by increasing fluid volume and contributes to the deterioration of kidney function by enhancing the renin-angiotensin system and sympathetic tone.

Background: The aldosterone-to-renin ratio (ARR) is commonly used for screening primary aldosteronism (PA) in patients with difficult-to-control hypertension. Various thresholds have been proposed for the confirmatory tests, leading to inconsistency in the results.

Research on SARS-CoV-2, the viral pathogen that causes COVID-19, has identified angiotensin converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) as the primary viral receptor. Several genes that encode viral cofactors, such as TMPRSS2, NRP1, CTSL, and possibly KIM1, have since been discovered. Glutamyl aminopeptidase (APA), encoded by the gene ENPEP, is another cofactor candidate due to similarities in its biological role and high correlation with ACE2 and other human coronavirus receptors, such as aminopeptidase N (APN) and dipeptidyl peptidase 4 (DPP4).

However, only a few studies have assessed the effects of OPE exposure on one of the most important endocrine glands in the body, the adrenal gland.
