Copper bromide complexes based on a series of substituted guanidine-quinolinyl and -pyridinyl ligands are reported. The ligand systems were chosen based on the large variation with regard to their flexibility in the backbone, different guanidine moieties and influence by electron density donating groups. Relationships between the molecular structures and spectroscopic and electronic properties are described. Beside the expected increase in activity by substituting the 4-position (NMe. H), we showed that a higher flexibility, such as TMG . DMEG moiety, leads to a better stabilsiation of the copper(II) complex. Due to the correlation of the potentials and values, the catalyst based on the ligand TMGm4NMepy is the most active copper complex for ATRP with a bidentate ligand system. The combination of the strong donating abilities of dimethylamine pyridinyl, the donor properties of the TMG substituent, and the improved flexibility due to the methylene bridging unit leads to high activity. With all NMe-substituted systems standard ATRP experiments were conducted and with more active NMe-substituted pyridinyl systems, ICAR ATRP experiments of styrene were conducted. Low dispersities and ideal molar masses have been achieved.

Herein, we report an open-air, photo accelerated atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) of methyl methacrylate (MMA) without employing any deoxygenating agent. Under open-air photo ATRP conditions, oxygen reversibly binds with [{Cu (PMDETA)}(O )] to form the required activator, which was demonstrated by simple benchtop oxygen/nitrogen purging experiments. The binding mode of oxygen in (μ(η-η) peroxo dicopper(II)) was investigated using UV Visible-NIR, FT-Raman and X-ray photoelectron (XPS) spectroscopic techniques.

A novel kind of carbon dot (CD) was prepared by one-step hydrothermal microwave assisted method using L-tryptophan and L-tartaric acid as raw materials. Monodisperse poly(glycidyl methacrylate-co-ethylene glycol dimethacrylate) microspheres were utilized as the matrix, with praseodymium (Pr) ion (Pr) as the template, methacrylic acid as the functional monomer, and 5-amino-8-hydroxyquinoline (5-AHQ) acts as the ligand. A composite microsphere of ion-imprinted polymer (IIP) and CD (noted CD@IIP) was prepared by surface-initiated atom transfer radical polymerization (SI-ATRP).

Background: In recent years, the advancement of computational chemistry has offered new insights into the rational design of molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs). From this aspect, our study tried to give quantitative parameters for evaluating imprinting efficiency and exploring the formation mechanism of MIPs by combining simulation and experiments.

Methods: The pre-polymerization system of sulfadimethoxine (SDM) was investigated using a combination of quantum chemical (QC) calculations and molecular dynamics (MD) simulations.

Temperature-responsive yeast cell-imprinted sensors (CIPs/AuNPs/TiCT/AuNPs/Au) were prepared based on fluorescein isothiocyanate labeled yeast cells (FITC-yeast) metal-free visible-light-induced atom transfer radical polymerization (MVL ATRP). Here, -isopropyl acrylamide (NIPAM) was used as a temperature-responsive functional monomer, α-methacrylic acid (MAA) was chosen as an auxiliary functional monomer, ,'-methylene bisacrylamide (MBA) was used as a cross-linker, and FITC-yeast was selected as both a template and photocatalyst. Under the optimal conditions, the detection range of the yeast cell-imprinted sensor toward yeast cells was 1.
