is an obligate intracellular protozoan that infects the nucleated cells of warm-blooded animals and causes life-threatening disease in immunocompromised patients. Due to the limited effectiveness and prominent side effects of existing drugs, there is an urgent need to develop new therapeutic options against . Piceatannol is a natural plant compound with multiple functions such as antibacterial, antileukemic and antiparasitic activities. In the present study, the anti- activity of piceatannol was evaluated. Piceatannol potently inhibited with a half-maximal effective concentration (EC) of 28.10 μM. Piceatannol showed a significant inhibitory effect on intracellular proliferation, inhibiting intracellular parasites at a rate of 98.9% when treatment with 100 μM piceatannol. However, the invasion ability of tachyzoites was not affected by piceatannol. By immunofluorescence assay, we noted that the parasite showed abnormalities in cell division after exposure to piceatannol. To determine the effect of piceatannol on acute infection, a model was established by infecting BALB/c mice with the virulent RH strain of . Mice infected with 500 tachyzoites showed a significant therapeutic effect when treated with 15 mg/kg of piceatannol. These results suggest that piceatannol is a promising drug for the treatment of .

Resveratrol is an important phytoalexin that adapts to and responds to stressful conditions and plays various roles in health and medical therapies. However, it is only found in a limited number of plant species in low concentrations, which hinders its development and utilization. Chalcone synthase (CHS) and stilbene synthase (STS) catalyze the same substrates to produce flavonoids and resveratrol, respectively.

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a major cause of vision loss among adults. We investigated the protective effects of passion fruit seed extract (PFSE) and its rich polyphenol piceatannol in an AMD cell model in which human retinal pigment epithelial ARPE-19 cells were exposed to hydrogen peroxide (HO). Using a cell viability WST-8 assay, we revealed that PFSE and piceatannol increased the cellular viability of ARPE-19 cells by 130% and 133%, respectively.

Natural stilbene compounds, such as resveratrol and pterostilbene, have been focused on owing to their diverse biological activities associated with antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-aging properties. However, their low water solubility limits their advanced applications. In this study, we investigated the protective effects of selected stilbene compounds (resveratrol, oxyresveratrol, gnetol, piceatannol, and pterostilbene) and their water-soluble derivatives (piceid, resveratrol polysaccharide, pterostilbene trisaccharide, and pterostilbene polysaccharide) against UVA-, UVB irradiation, tertiary-butyl hydroperoxide (t-BuOOH)- and hydrogen peroxide (HO)-induced injury in human epidermal cells.

Natural Xanthine oxidase (XOD) inhibitors represent promising therapeutic agents for hyperuricemia (HUA) treatment due to their potent efficacy and favorable safety profiles. This study involved the construction of a comprehensive database of 315 XOD inhibitors and development of 28 machine learning-based QSAR models. The ChemoPy light gradient boosting machine model exhibited the best performance (AUC = 0.
