Purpose: To investigate morphologic changes of choroidal structure through chronologic aspect in progression of macular neovascularization (MNV) with pachychoroid features.

Methods: One hundred seventy-one MNV participants above 50 years old with or without pachychoroid features were included in the analysis. Age-matched 132 normal patients were analyzed as control group. The total choroidal area and ratio of Sattler's layer area to total choroidal area, derived by summing 25 horizontal raster scans of the 30° × 20° scan area on enhanced depth imaging optical coherence tomography, were calculated to compare the difference among the normal eyes and the MNV eyes with/without pachychoroid features.

Results: The mean ratio of Sattler's layer area to total choroidal area is maintained at around 40% in normal eyes and MNV eyes without pachychoroid features. In MNV with pachychoroid features, the ratio of Sattler's layer area to total choroidal area changes according to the disease activity. Ratio of Sattler's layer area to total choroidal area is 34.1 ± 4.4% at the time of onset, 37.2 ± 4.8% at the time of remission, and decreases during recurrence from 36.8 ± 3.8% to 33.4 ± 3.8% (all P < 0.001).

Conclusion: MNV with pachychoroid features is a disease whose development and progression are related to a change in the choroidal interlayer area ratio following the relatively larger dilation of Haller's layer vessels.

: To evaluate the effects of subthreshold micropulse laser treatment (SMLT) on choroidal architecture in chronic central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC) and their correlations with functional outcomes. : This retrospective study included 48 eyes with chronic CSC that were treated with 577 nm SMLT. The choroidal thickness (CT); Sattler's layer and choriocapillaris complex thickness (SLCCT); Haller's layer thickness (HLT); subretinal fluid (SRF); and best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) were assessed at baseline and at 2 months post treatment.

Corrected Axial Length and Choroidal Thickness: A Correlation Analysis for Scientific Purposes.

Choroidal thickness (ChT) is an important measurement for evaluating eye and systemic disorders, but it is influenced by numerous elements, especially axial length (AL). It is known that the presence of a linear relationship between ChT and AL exists, but recently it has been shown that the AL measurement obtained with the current optical biometry is not very precise and needs to be corrected. This study aimed to verify if a similar correlation also persists with this corrected AL (ALc).

Management of Anterior Choroidal Artery Aneurysms: A Retrospective Cohort Study.

Brain Sci

December 2024

Division of Neurointerventional Radiology, UMass-Chan Lahey Department of Radiology, Lahey Hospital and Medical Centre-Beth Israel Lahey Health, Burlington, MA 01805, USA.

Anterior choroidal artery (AChoA) aneurysms pose a challenge for both endovascular and clipping procedures. The eloquent territory supplied by the parent vessel has limited collateralization and its compromise can lead to significant morbidity. This study aims to analyze the clinical outcomes and procedure-related complications of clipping and endovascular treatment of AChoA aneurysms to aid physician decision making.

Background: Uveal melanoma (UM) is the most common intraocular tumor in adults, arises either de novo from normal choroidal melanocytes (NCMs) or from pre-existing nevi that stem from NCMs and are thought to harbor UM-initiating mutations, most commonly in GNAQ or GNA11. However, there are no commercially available NCM cell lines, nor is there a detailed protocol for developing an oncogene-mutated CM line (MutCM) to study UM development. This study aimed to establish and characterize premalignant CM models from human donor eyes to recapitulate the cell populations at the origin of UM.
