Aims: Poor health-related quality of life is prevalent among individuals with cardiovascular disease (CVD) and may be associated with frailty as well as low levels of self-efficacy and physical activity. This study aimed to identify the multiple mediating effects of exercise self-efficacy and physical activity on the relationship between frailty and health-related quality of life among community-dwelling adults with CVD.

Methods And Results: This cross-sectional study included 489 Korean patients aged >20 years diagnosed with CVD. Data were collected through an online survey conducted in June 2021. The mediation hypothesis was tested using a serial multiple mediation model and the bootstrapping method. Approximately, 39.5% of patients in this study were in a frail state. Our main finding revealed that frailty had an indirect effect on health-related quality of life through all three different pathways: each single mediation of exercise self-efficacy and physical activity, and the serial multiple mediation of exercise self-efficacy and physical activity as the first and second mediators, respectively. The direct effect of frailty on the health-related quality of life was also significant.

Conclusion: Frail adults with CVD tended to have lower levels of self-efficacy, physical activity, and poor health-related quality of life. Thus, early identification of frailty and interventions targeting the promotion of self-efficacy and physical activity may improve health-related quality of life in adults with CVD. Longitudinal studies are necessary to further refine our findings across other samples and to address the limitations of the current study.

Transdermal drug delivery presents numerous advantages over conventional administration routes, including non-invasiveness, enhanced patient adherence, circumvention of hepatic first-pass metabolism, self-administration capabilities, controlled release, and increased bioavailability. Nevertheless, the barrier function of stratum corneum limits this strategy to molecules possessing requisite physicochemical attributes. To expand the field of transdermal delivery, researchers have pioneered physical enhancement techniques, with micron-sized needles emerging as a particularly promising platform for the transdermal and intradermal delivery of therapeutic agents across a spectrum of molecular sizes.

West China School of Nursing, Sichuan University/West China Hospital, Sichuan University, Chengdu, China. Electronic address:

Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigates a comprehensive web-based program designed to help gastric cancer patients manage cancer-related fatigue (CRF) during chemotherapy, addressing not just fatigue but also self-efficacy, sleep quality, anxiety, depression, pain, and overall quality of life (QoL).
  • - A total of 92 patients were split into two groups, where the intervention group participated in an online program for 12 weeks with additional support, while the control group received standard care. Outcomes were measured at different time points to assess the program's effectiveness.
  • - Results showed significant improvements in CRF and associated symptoms for the intervention group, demonstrating that the web-based program effectively enhances the well-being of cancer patients, though there was no notable change in pain

Engaging in regular exercise is essential for managing knee osteoarthritis (KOA) symptoms. Despite the established findings, sustained exercise adoption remains a challenge for KOA patients, with notable disparities among Hispanic patients, warranting a need to identify determinants that explain the racial discrepancy in exercise participation. The purpose of this study was to employ a biopsychosocial model to identify determinants of exercise participation and highlight racial disparities.

Development of a rehabilitation programme for young adult cancer survivors using co-production.

User Perspectives and Community-based Interventions, Department of Public Health, University of Southern Denmark, Odense, Denmark.

Background: Young adult cancer survivors, defined as individuals aged 18-39 who have completed primary curative treatment, face numerous age-specific biopsychosocial late effects that impact health-related quality of life negatively. Rehabilitation can enhance participation in life roles, work, leisure activities and health-related quality of life. However, there is a lack of age-specific cancer rehabilitation for this population, leaving many young adults with diminished self-efficacy in managing their challenges, resulting in unmet needs.

Objectives: This study aims to assess the effectiveness of an intervention based on the goal attainment theory to levels of physical activity, body composition, and motivational variables of emerging adults with physical inactivity.

Study Design: A randomized, controlled trial.

Methods: A total of 157 emerging adults with physical inactivity were randomized into the control group (n = 77) or the intervention group (n = 80).
