Mitochondrial dysfunction and α-synuclein (αSyn) aggregation are key contributors to Parkinson's Disease (PD). While genetic and environmental risk factors, including mutations in mitochondrial-associated genes, are implicated in PD, the precise mechanisms linking mitochondrial defects to αSyn pathology remain incompletely understood, hindering the development of effective therapeutic interventions. Here, we identify the loss of branched chain ketoacid dehydrogenase kinase (BCKDK) as a mitochondrial risk factor that exacerbates αSyn pathology by disrupting Complex I function.

Idiopathic male infertility is characterized by increased mortality or reduced motility and vitality of sperm. There are several reports on probiotics in the male reproductive tract, but the effects of these probiotics on sperm motility remain to be elucidated. In this study, we investigated the impact and mechanism of probiotics on the vitality and motility of mouse sperm.

Background: Inorganic ultraviolet filters such as titanium dioxide nanoparticles are frequently used in sunscreens. Numerous toxicological studies in vitro and in vivo have been conducted using pristine standard reference nanomaterials of these inorganic filters. While convenient, this approach is not realistic because the complex environment of sunscreen formulations could change the physicochemical properties of the nanoparticles and lead to vastly different toxicological outcomes.

NK cells are endowed with tumor killing ability, nevertheless most cancers impair NK cell functionality, and cell-based therapies have limited efficacy in solid tumors. How cancers render NK cell dysfunctional is unclear, and overcoming resistance is an important immune-therapeutic aim. Here, we identify autophagy as a central regulator of NK cell anti-tumor function.

Background: Differentiating dental pulp stem cells (DPSCs) into odontoblasts is a critical process for tooth self-repair and dentine‒pulp engineering strategies in the clinic. However, the mechanism underlying the regulation of DPSC odontoblastic differentiation remains largely unknown. Here, we demonstrated that BCL-2 interacting protein 3 (BNIP3)-dependent mitophagy is associated with importin subunit beta-1 (KPNB1)-activating transcription factor 4 (ATF4), which promotes DPSC odontoblastic differentiation.
