Objectives: Neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), one of the composite biomarker of systemic inflammatory status, was proved promising in predicting clinical outcomes of acute coronary syndrome (ACS). However, there were no evidences that NLR was directly relative to the clinical outcomes of unstable angina pectoris (UAP). Therefore, this study was aimed to detect whether NLR could predict the coronary artery lesion severity (indicated as SYNTAX score) and clinical outcomes (especially long-term cardiovascular mortality) in patients with.

Methods: In the single-centre retrospective study, 4110 patients with UAP were enrolled and divided into two groups according to their primary NLR values and followed up at a median time duration of 36 months. The differences of SYNTAX score and cardiovascular mortality between groups were analysed, and the predictive value of NLR was determined.

Results: NLR was positively and linearly correlated with SYNTAX score ( = 0.270). Diabetes ( = 0.049), lymphocyte ( = 0.004), NLR ( = 0.002) and SYNTAX score ( < 0.001) were independent predictors of long-term cardiovascular mortality in patients with UAP. Kaplan-Meier analysis revealed higher occurrence of cardiovascular mortality when NLR > 2.38 ( = 0.015). Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis showed that NLR = 2.76 is an effective cut point for predicting cardiovascular mortality (69.2% sensitivity, 64.8% specificity).

Conclusions: NLR value was positively related to the severity of coronary artery lesion and proved to be an independent predictor of cardiovascular mortality in patients with UAP. This study would contribute to therapy and prognosis optimisation of UAP.

Background: The health benefits of physical activity, including walking, are well-established, but the relationship between daily step count and mortality in hypertensive populations remains underexplored. This study investigates the association between daily step count and both all-cause and cardiovascular mortality in hypertensive American adults.

Methods: We used data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2005-2006, including 1,629 hypertensive participants with accelerometer-measured step counts.

Cardiac wall motion abnormalities (WMA) are strong predictors of mortality, but current screening methods using Q waves from electrocardiograms (ECGs) have limited accuracy and vary across racial and ethnic groups. This study aimed to identify novel ECG features using deep learning to enhance WMA detection, referencing echocardiography as the gold standard. We collected ECG and echocardiogram data from 35,210 patients in California and labeled WMA using unstructured language parsing of echocardiographic reports.

MAFLD as a predictor of adverse cardiovascular events among CHD patients with LDL-C<1.8 mmol/L.

Nutr Metab Cardiovasc Dis

Department of Cardiology and Institute of Vascular Medicine, Peking University Third Hospital, Beijing, China; Key Laboratory of Molecular Cardiovascular Science, Ministry of Education, Beijing, China. Electronic address:

Background And Aims: Patients receiving statin therapy still suffer from adverse cardiovascular events. Metabolic (dysfunction)-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) is a newly proposed concept that shares common metabolic risk factors with cardiovascular disease. This study aimed to investigate the association between MAFLD and adverse cardiovascular outcomes in coronary heart disease (CHD) patients with LDL-C<1.

Short and Long-Term Outcomes of Lung Transplantation from Brain Death vs. Circulatory Death Donors: A Meta-analysis of Comparative Studies.

J Heart Lung Transplant

Department of Cardiovascular Surgery, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN; Division of Thoracic Surgery, Department of Surgery, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN. Electronic address:

Objectives: To investigate through a meta-analysis of comparative studies the impact of donor type (brain death DBD vs circulatory death DCD) on the short- and long-term outcomes of lung transplantation(LTx).

Methods: Literature search (terms "lung transplantation" AND "donation after circulatory death") was performed up to July 2022 and studies comparing outcomes of LTx from DCD versus DBD were selected. Primary endpoints were early and long-term mortality.

Background & Aims: A common genetic variant (rs738409) encoding isoleucine to methionine at position 148 in the PNPLA3 protein is a determinant of hepatic steatosis, inflammation, fibrosis, cirrhosis, and liver-related mortality. AZD2693 is a liver-targeted antisense oligonucleotide against PNPLA3 mRNA. We evaluated the safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacodynamics in single ascending dose (SAD) and multiple ascending dose (MAD) studies.
