The VACTERL (vertebral defects, anal atresia, cardiac defects, tracheoesophageal fistula, renal anomalies, and limb abnormalities) association represents an enigmatic syndrome requiring further study. This report describes a full-term neonate born to a multiparous woman who was found, upon further examination, to have multiple congenital abnormalities, including a bicuspid aortic valve, patent foramen ovale, tracheoesophageal fistula (TEF), asymmetric crying facies, microphallus, and a single inguinal testis. The discussion explores environmental and genetic factors that may contribute to this association, as well as similar conditions, such as CHARGE (coloboma, heart defects, choanal atresia, growth retardation, genital abnormalities, and ear abnormalities) syndrome.

Objective: The objective was to evaluate the relationship between carotid stenting and off-pump coronary artery grafting (CAS-OPCABG) and OPCABG only in patients with asymptomatic severe carotid stenosis.
Methods: This study retrospectively included 669 patients with asymptomatic severe carotid artery stenosis who underwent OPCABG at multiple centers. After propensity score matching for baseline characteristics, the study compared two groups of patients with clinical data, early and midterm death, stroke, and myocardial infarction (MI).

Background: Continuous retrograde flow across the aortic valve from left ventricular assist device (LVAD) therapy can result in cusp damage and progressive aortic regurgitation, potentially triggering recurrent heart and multiorgan failure. The management of aortic regurgitation after LVAD implantation has not been well defined.
Methods: This study retrospectively reviewed the investigators' experience with the management of de novo aortic regurgitation requiring intervention in patients with continuous-flow LVAD.

Background: The aortoesophageal fistula (AEF) caused by thoracic endovascular aortic repair is a challenging condition. Traditional treatment approaches have been associated with high mortality and morbidity. This study introduces a modified single-stage surgical strategy that aims to optimize outcomes and to reduce the risk of recurrence for AEF.

A 55-year-old woman with no significant medical history or symptoms was incidentally diagnosed with a mediastinal tumor during a routine health checkup. The intraoperative findings of robot-assisted thoracoscopic surgery led to the diagnosis of extralobar pulmonary sequestration (EPS), with multiple vessels connecting to the pulmonary artery and superior pulmonary vein. EPS, an extremely rare condition, is typically supplied with blood from the aorta.
