Chain-end functionalized polymers play an important role in the field of building complex macromolecular structures. In this study, we have synthesized and characterized four dibenzhydryl iminopyridine Ni(II) complexes bearing remote flexible substituents (Et and n-Bu) to provide hyperbranched ethylene oligomers in ethylene oligomerization with moderate to good activities. Most notably, toluene-end-functionalized hyperbranched ethylene oligomers were obtained under elevated temperature conditions and validated by NMR. The tandem catalysis of ethylene oligomerization and the subsequent Friedel-Crafts addition of the resulting unsaturated products to toluene molecules was proposed as the cause of the observed phenomenon.

In this study, segmented hyperbranched copolymers with degradable and chain extendable cross-linker branch points were synthesized via green light-activated photoiniferter copolymerization of poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether methacrylate (PEGMA) and a trithiocarbonate-derived dimethacrylate. A series of segmented hyperbranched copolymers with different degrees of branching were synthesized by changing the feed ratio of PEGMA to cross-linker to chain transfer agent. The segmented hyperbranched copolymers could be degraded into linear polymer chains by removing the trithocarbonate groups, which provides fundamental insights into the growth of primary chains during photoiniferter copolymerization.

Background: Surfactants regulate the interaction between pesticide droplets and the surfaces of plants on which they are sprayed. The influence of the key structural functional groups of surfactants on the interaction between pesticide droplets and hydrophobic pear leaves has not been explored. The behavior of Imidacloprid (Imid) droplets regulated by cationic quaternary ammonium surfactants with different structures on hydrophobic pear leaves and their bouncing dynamics were studied.

The interaction of unfractionated heparin (UFH) with universal heparin reversal agent 7 (UHRA-7) is investigated. UHRA-7 is composed of a hyperbranched polyglycerol core onto which an array of methylated tris(2-aminoethylamine) (Me-TREN) charged groups is grafted, which in turn are shielded with a layer of small chain poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether (mPEG) chains. This system has previously been shown to be biocompatible and to be effective at neutralizing heparin.

Hydrogel microparticles (HMPs) have many advantages for biomedical applications, particularly for minimally invasive therapy, for example, acute lung injury (ALI) that is characterized by high levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and pro-inflammatory mediators in the microenvironment. In this study, ROS-scavenging and pro-inflammatory cytokine-neutralizing HMPs were designed and prepared by using a membrane emulsification device. The HMPs were composed of double bond-modified hyaluronic acid and ROS-cleavable hyperbranched poly(acrylate-capped thioketone-containing ethylene glycol) (HBPAK) containing thioketal linkages and unsaturated double bonds.

Double hydrophilic, random, hyperbranched copolymers were synthesized via reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization of oligo(ethylene glycol) methyl ether methacrylate (OEGMA) and 2-(dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate (DMAEMA) utilizing ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA) as the branching agent. The resulting copolymers were characterized in terms of their molecular weight and dispersity using size exclusion chromatography (SEC), and their chemical structure was confirmed using FT-IR and H-NMR spectroscopy techniques. The choice of the two hydrophilic blocks and the design of the macromolecular structure allowed the formation of self-assembled nanoparticles, partially due to the pH-responsive character of the DMAEMA segments and their interaction with -COOH end groups remaining from the chain transfer agent.
