Sclareol is an important intermediate for ambroxide synthesis industries. Hyphozyma roseonigra ATCC 20624 was the only reported strain capable of degrading sclareol to the main product of sclareol glycol, which is the precursor of ambroxide. To date, knowledge is lacking about the effects of sclareol on cells and the proteins involved in sclareol metabolism.

Influences of diterpene sclareol glycol on some dopamine related behavior.

Gen Pharmacol

July 1991

Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology, Medical Academy, Sofia, Bulgaria.

1. The effects of the diterpene sclareol glycol (SG) of the labdane family on some dopamine (DA) related behavior (locomotor activity in mice, apomorphine-induced stereotypy in mice and rats, and haloperidol-induced catalepsy in rats) were studied. 2.

The effects of the diterpene sclareol glycol on seizures do not depend on central benzodiazepine receptors.

Methods Find Exp Clin Pharmacol

December 1990

Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology, Medical Academy, Sofia, Bulgaria.

Using pentylenetetrazol (PTZ) in subconvulsant doses, it was found that the semisynthetic diterpene sclareol glycol (SG) from the labdane family of diterpenes at a dose well below the lethal dose, although not being convulsant, had a proconvulsant action in mice. This action is indicated by the number of mice undergoing convulsions and the reduction of latency. Specific binding of [3H]-diazepam in vitro to whole homogenate fractions prepared from hippocampus of rats was not inhibited by SG.

The response of diterpene sclareol glycol to acute hypoxia in mice.

Methods Find Exp Clin Pharmacol

November 1990

Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology, Research Institute of Pharmacology and Pharmacy, Medical Academy, Sofia, Bulgaria.

The effects of a reversible activator of adenylate cyclase sclareol glycol (SG), a semisynthetic diterpene of the labdane family, on acute hypoxia (asphyctic, hemic-induced by 300 mg/kg of sodium nitrite injected subcutaneously, and histotoxic-induced by 20 mg/kg sodium nitroprusside injected intraperitoneally) in mice were studied. SG was applied at doses well below the lethal dose. SG increased the latency to convulsions and the survival time to death.
