The study aimed to analyze the use of complementary and integrative health practices (CIHPs) during labor and birth in a freestanding birth center. A total of 28 different CIHPs were applied with or used by laboring women. The most adopted CIHPs were mind-body practices (99.9%) and natural products (35.5%), mostly used by primiparous women ( P <.05). Adopting CIHPs can increase care quality, increase positive experiences during childbirth, and promote evidence-based choices.

Human endocrine cell differentiation and islet morphogenesis play critical roles in determining islet cell mass and function, but the events and timeline of these processes are incompletely defined. To better understand early human islet cell development and maturation, we collected 115 pediatric pancreata and mapped morphological and spatiotemporal changes from birth through the first ten years of life. Using quantitative analyses and a combination of complementary tissue imaging approaches, including confocal microscopy and whole-slide imaging, we developed an integrated model for endocrine cell formation and islet architecture, including endocrine cell type heterogeneity and abundance, endocrine cell proliferation, and islet vascularization and innervation.

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) precipitates a neuroinflammatory cascade, with the NLRP3 inflammasome emerging as a critical mediator. This review scrutinizes the complex activation pathways of the NLRP3 inflammasome by underscoring the intricate interplay between calcium signaling, mitochondrial disturbances, redox imbalances, lysosomal integrity, and autophagy. It is hypothesized that a combination therapy approach-integrating NF-κB pathway inhibitors with NLRP3 inflammasome antagonists-holds the potential to synergistically dampen the inflammatory storm associated with TBI.

Cancer therapy continues to face critical challenges, including drug resistance, recurrence, and severe side effects, which often compromise patient outcomes and quality of life. Exploring novel, cost-effective approaches, this review highlights the potential of Piper nigrum (black pepper) extract (PNE) as a complementary anticancer agent. Piper nigrum, a widely available spice with a rich history in traditional medicine, contains bioactive compounds such as piperine, which have demonstrated significant anticancer activities including cell cycle arrest, apoptosis induction, and inhibition of tumor growth and metastasis.

Linkers in chemical biology provide more than just connectivity between molecules; their intrinsic properties can be harnessed to enhance the stability and functionality of chemical probes. In this study, we explored the incorporation of a peptide nucleic acid (PNA)-based linker into RNA-targeting probes to improve their affinity and specificity. By integrating a PNA linker into a small molecule probe of the Riboglow platform, we enabled dual binding events: cobalamin (Cbl)-RNA structure-based recognition and sequence-specific PNA-RNA interaction.
