The why and how of the SynNerGe criteria of Parkinson´s disease.

J Neural Transm (Vienna)

October 2024

Edmond J. Safra Program in Parkinson's Disease and the Rossy PSP Centre, Toronto Western Hospital, University of Toronto, Toronto, ON, Canada.

In pursuit of early therapeutic interventions for Parkinson's disease, the proposed SynNeurGe classification system integrates α-synuclein pathology (S), neurodegeneration evidence (N), and pathogenic gene variants (G). This approach aims to address the disease's complexity and biological diversity. It suggests categorizing patients based on the presence or absence of α-synuclein pathology in tissues or cerebrospinal fluid, neurodegeneration indicators from specific imaging techniques, and identification of pathogenic gene variants associated with Parkinson's disease.

Clinician Ordering and Management Patterns of Urine Toxicology Results at a Cancer Center.

J Pain Symptom Manage

July 2024

Department of Psychosocial Oncology and Palliative Care (M.Y., B.K., I.S.C.), Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Boston, Massachusetts, USA; Department of Medicine (G.D.S., I.S.C.), Division of General Internal Medicine and Primary Care, Brigham and Women's Hospital, Boston, Massachusetts, USA; Harvard Medical School (M.Y., S.E.F.M., G.D.S., I.S.C.), Boston, Massachusetts, USA. Electronic address:

Context: Opioid therapy is a cornerstone for treatment of cancer-related pain, but standardized management practices for patients with cancer and aberrant urine drug test (UDT) results are lacking.

Objectives: To identify the prevalence of UDT ordering (both screening and definitive testing) in the oncology setting and to examine clinician management practices for patients with cancer on opioid therapy with aberrant definitive UDT results.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective chart review of patients with cancer on opioid therapy at an academic cancer center in the United States.

Introduction: New insights on polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy (PCV) have shed light regarding its pathophysiology and associations. However, PCV characterization is still incomplete in Caucasians, which is due to presumed lower prevalence in this population. Features typically associated with AMD such as drusen, retinal pigmentary changes or atrophy are seen in PCV, as precursors and in the fellow eye.

Purpose: Clinically integrated teaching (CIT) is an effective approach for promoting evidence-based practice (EBP) competencies among medical students. Challenges towards the implementation of CIT in rehabilitation curricula include educators' different conceptualizations of EBP, the perceived complexity of EBP and the boundaries between the academic and the clinical setting. This study aimed to identify tailored strategies to implement in rehabilitation programs and their affiliated clinical sites to support the development of EBP competencies among students in occupational therapy (OT), physical therapy (PT) and speech-language pathology (S-LP).
