Natural bone is a self-regenerating nanocomposite made of proteins and minerals. Such self-regenerative capacity can be negatively affected by certain diseases involving the bone or its surrounding tissues. Our study assesses the ability of bone grafting material to regenerate bone in animals who have artificially created critical-sized defects.

Aims: To date, bariatric surgery (BS) is the most effective long-term treatment for obesity, but weight regain (WR) is common. The very low-calorie ketogenic diet (VLCKD) is effective for weight loss and may influence gut microbiota (GM) composition, but it has been scarcely evaluated in post-bariatric patients. This study compared the efficacy and safety of a VLCKD in patients with WR post-bariatric surgery (BS+) and in bariatric surgery-naïve patients (BS-).

Background: Daptomycin pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics data relative to higher doses in patients are necessary for clinical practice.

Objectives: A monocentric, prospective study that enrolled patients with a diagnosis of spp. infective endocarditis treated with daptomycin according to clinical practice, to evaluate the pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics of different daptomycin daily doses (group A: 8-10 and group B: 11-12 mg/kg).

Among 3127 episodes of suspected infective endocarditis, the 2023 Duke-International Society for Cardiovascular Infectious Diseases clinical criteria showed an accuracy of 90% for infective endocarditis diagnosis. A new heart murmur was present in 690 (22%) episodes. Excluding imaging and surgical findings decreased the accuracy to 73%, while using the physical examination criterion slightly improved the accuracy to 78%.
