Sm-EDTMP is widely used as a palliative radiopharmaceutical for treatment of metastatic bone pain. It is produced by neutron activation of enriched Sm targets in a nuclear reactor. The long-lived europium radionuclides are co-produced along with production of Sm and it give rise to radioactive waste in Sm-EDTMP production. The gamma radiation dose rate was found significant on the radioactive waste generated during the production of Sm-EDTMP. Residual activity in six waste samples generated in different batches of Sm-EDTMP production were analysed for percentage contributions of Eu using gamma-ray spectrometry. Eu was a major contributor with around 62%, and the other radioisotopes, viz. Eu &Eu contribution were ∼29% & ∼9% respectively. The activity concentration of these long-lived europium radionuclides in samarium radiopharmaceutical production waste may be utilised for the dose rate estimation, and vice versa.

Lanthanum phosphate is a well-known potential host for rare earth activators for phosphor-converted white LED application. Na and Bi codoped Eu activated LaPO nanophosphor is successfully synthesized using citrate-based hydrothermal method at ambient condition and confirmed by XRD, EDS and XPS analysis. The excitation spectra of the sample exhibit sharp f-f characteristics peak of Eu at 393 nm that is found to be the most dominant.

Experimental and theoretical studies of spherical hydroxylamine hydrochloride intercalated molybdenum disulfide for the removal of U(VI), Eu(III), and Cr(VI).

The current environmental problem is the coexistence of multiple pollutants rather than a single pollutant. In this study, U(VI), Eu(III), and Cr(VI) are selected as representatives of the actinides, lanthanide elements, and heavy metal elements for removal study. The hydroxylamine hydrochloride intercalated molybdenum disulfide (HAH/MoS) was prepared to remove these contaminants.

Safe and effective storage of radioactive waste is essential to protect human and environmental health. Due to the potential for accidental releases and the severity of the associated risks, it is imperative to further understand radionuclide transport should an accident occur. This study was the second set of measurements conducted in 2022 of an ongoing experiment that has analyzed the vadose zone migration of radionuclides from cementitious wasteforms at the Savannah River Site over the last ten years.

Here we describe an anti-prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) minibody (IAB2MA) conjugated to an octadentate, macrocyclic chelator based on four 1-hydroxypyridin-2-one coordinating units (Lumi804 [L804]) labeled with Zr (PET imaging) and Lu (radiopharmaceutical therapy), with the goal of developing safer and more efficacious treatment options for prostate cancer. L804 was compared with the current gold standard chelators, DOTA and deferoxamine (DFO), conjugated to IAB2MA for radiolabeling with Lu and Zr in cell binding, preclinical biodistribution, imaging, dosimetry, and efficacy studies in the PSMA-positive PC3-PIP tumor-bearing mouse model of prostate cancer. Quantitative radiolabeling (>99% radiochemical yield) of L804-IAB2MA with Lu or Zr was achieved at ambient temperature in under 30 min, comparable to Zr labeling of DFO-IAB2MA.

The integration of the ORION digital signal processing-based MCA system coupled with a 3″ × 3″ NaI(Tl) detector assembly with a GM detector for counting beta (β) has eliminated the need for a standalone β-γ method in which U3O8 is determined by gross β and gross γ counting. Uraniferous and mixed U-Th samples were taken up for study and compared with the results obtained from Canberra p-type coaxial high resolution gamma ray spectrometry detector. In uraniferous samples, U3O8 values obtained are within ±10%, whereas in the case of mixed U-Th samples, U3O8 values are within ±15%.
