A Pd-catalyzed, native α-amino acid derivative-directed benzylic C-H bond arylation/oxidation with aryl iodides was developed. The natural amino acid auxiliary could serve as a desired building block for formation of 5-aryl-1,4-benzodiazepin-2-ones after removal of the trifluoroacetyl protecting group. The bifunctional reaction probably proceeded through a sequential benzylic arylation/oxidation process.

Unnatural helical peptidic foldamers have attracted considerable attention owing to their unique folding behaviours, diverse artificial protein binding mechanisms, and promising applications in chemical, biological, medical, and material fields. Unlike the conventional α-helix consisting of molecular entities of native α-amino acids, unnatural helical peptidic foldamers are generally comprised of well-defined backbone conformers with unique and unnatural structural parameters. Their folded structures usually arise from unnatural amino acids such as -substituted glycine, -substituted-β-alanine, β-amino acid, urea, thiourea, α-aminoxy acid, α-aminoisobutyric acid, aza-amino acid, aromatic amide, γ-amino acid, as well as sulfono-γ-AA amino acid.

Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) play crucial role as mediators of the primary host defense against microbial invasion. They are considered a promising alternative to antibiotics for multidrug resistant bacterial strains. For complete understanding of the antimicrobial defense mechanism, a detailed knowledge of the dynamics of peptide-membrane interactions, including atomistic studies on AMPs geometry and both peptide and membrane structural changes during the whole process is a prerequisite.

High throughput fine specificity determination remains technically challenging. We review recent experiences aimed at revisiting the oldest and most extended display technology to develop a robust epitope mapping platform, based on the ability to manipulate target-derived molecules (ranging from the whole native antigen to antigen domains and smaller fragments) on filamentous phages.

Unlabelled: Epsilon toxin secreted by Clostridium perfringens types B and D has been directly implicated as the causative agent of fatal enterotoxemia in domestic animals. The aim of the present study is to use in silico approach for identification of B-cell epitope(s) of epsilon toxin, and its expression in fusion with a carrier protein to analyze its potential as vaccine candidate(s). Using different computational analyses and bioinformatics tools, a number of antigenic determinant regions of epsilon toxin were identified.
