Temporary cervical sling and uterine twist before B-Lynch for massive uterine bleeding after delivery.

Department of Women-Mother-Child, Gynecology and Obstetrics Unit, Lausanne University Hospital (CHUV), Lausanne, Switzerland.

Published: October 2022

Massive uterine bleeding occurring after delivery is in most cases unpredictable and can have fatal consequences. This article presents the technique of combining the twisting of uterus on a 90° rotation on its axis and positioning a sling around the cervix, allowing to decrease incoming blood flow from uterine and ovarian arteries. The aim of this easy-to-use procedure is to enable surgeons and anaesthesiologists to respectively ensure the presence of an experienced surgeon and to stabilise the haemodynamic of the patient. It is of particular interest in resources' challenged environments.

Pulmovermis cyanovitellosus Coil and Kuntz, 1960 is a species of hemiurid trematode that localizes in the lung of sea snakes, an unusual trait for this group of parasites. Recent molecular phylogenetic studies based on 28S rRNA gene sequences have shown that this species is closely related to members of the genus Lecithochirium Lühe, 1901. This finding is unexpected given that Pulmovermis Coil and Kuntz, 1960 and Lecithochirium are currently classified in different subfamilies of Hemiuridae (Pulmoverminae Sandars, 1961 vs.

Histological differences among thrombi in thrombotic diseases.

Curr Opin Hematol

January 2025

Department of Pathology, Section of Oncopathology and Morphological Pathology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Miyazaki, Miyazaki, Japan.

Purpose Of Review: This review aims to summarize the histological differences among thrombi in acute myocardial infarction, ischemic stroke, venous thromboembolism, and amniotic fluid embolism, a newly identified thrombosis.

Recent Findings: Acute coronary thrombi have a small size, are enriched in platelets and fibrin, and show the presence of fibrin and von Willebrand factor, but not collagen, at plaque rupture sites. Symptomatic deep vein thrombi are large and exhibit various phases of time-dependent histological changes.

Purpose: To comprehensively compare the diagnostic ability and inter-reader agreement of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings for predicting massive hemorrhage after cesarean section in patients with placental malposition, aiming to identify the most reliable and objective indicators.

Methods: Totally, 148 consecutive patients with placental malposition underwent MRI and cesarean section at our hospital between January 2014 and July 2021. The patients were divided into massive and non-massive hemorrhage groups.

Introduction: Musculocontractural Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (mcEDS) is a rare autosomal recessive connective tissue disorder caused by systemic depletion of dermatan sulfate. Symptoms characteristic of mcEDS include multiple contractures, fragile skin with subcutaneous bleeding, and hypermobile joints, which suggest difficulty in perioperative management. However, safe surgical techniques and perioperative management of this disorder remain unknown because of its rarity.

Uterine leiomyoma, also referred to as fibroid or myoma, is a prevalent benign tumor that can present with a range of clinical manifestations. The symptoms, which vary based on the tumor's location, size, and number, include pain, constipation, urinary disturbances, and abnormal menstrual bleeding. Certain types of uterine leiomyomas, such as pedunculated subserosal myomas or large degenerating cystic myomas, may closely mimic ovarian tumors, leading to significant diagnostic and management challenges.
