Surface layers of molybdenum oxide MoO and tungsten oxide WO produced by thermal oxidation of molybdenum and tungsten plates in the air were studied for the first time as a platform for laser-induced electron transfer desorption/ionization. High analytical performance of such layers for the determination of metal complexes with dithiocarbamates, such as tetramethylthiuram disulfide, tetraethylthiuram disulfide, and diethyldithiocarbamate, has been demonstrated. All studied complexes are detected as radical cations, with no fragment ions. The ion yields from MoO and WO surfaces were found to be more than two orders of magnitude higher than those from nanocrystalline silicon surfaces. A novel method has been developed for the determination of trace amounts of dithiocarbamates based on the complexation of analytes with gold ions, followed by laser-induced electron transfer desorption/ionization. The limits of detection of dithiocarbamates were estimated to be about 1 ng/mL. The proposed method was successfully applied to the rapid screening of tetramethylthiuram disulfide residues in juice.

Synthetic antioxidants are often introduced to biodiesel to increase its oxidative stability, and -butyl hydroquinone (TBHQ) has been selected due to its high efficiency for this purpose. The monitoring of antioxidants in biodiesel therefore provides information on the oxidative stability of biodiesels. Herein, a laser-induced graphene (LIG) electrode is introduced as a new sensor for detecting -butyl hydroquinone (TBHQ) in biodiesel samples.

Nanosecond Nanothermometry in an Electron Microscope.

Thermal transport in nanostructures plays a critical role in modern technologies. As devices shrink, techniques that can measure thermal properties at nanometer and nanosecond scales are increasingly needed to capture transient, out-of-equilibrium phenomena. We present a novel pump-probe photon-electron method within a scanning transmission electron microscope (STEM) to map temperature dynamics with unprecedented spatial and temporal resolutions.

In this study, we investigated in detail the regulation mechanism of electron transfer under laser-induced breakdown (LIB) on weak O-D stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) in DMSO-DO solutions. Significantly, the Raman activity of O-D vibrations was greatly enhanced by two orders of magnitude due to electron transfer in DMSO molecules. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations showed that the O-D Raman activity was significantly enhanced in the DMSO-DO dimer compared to the DO dimer.

Extensive research on ultrashort laser-induced melting of noble metals like Au, Ag and Cu is available. However, studies on laser energy deposition and thermal damage of their alloys, which are currently attracting interest for energy harvesting and storage devices, are limited. This study investigates the melting damage threshold (DT) of three intermetallic alloys of Au and Cu (AuCu, AuCu and AuCu) subjected to single-pulse femtosecond laser irradiation, comparing them with their constituent metals.

Ultrashort laser pulses are extensively used for efficient manipulation of interfacial spin injection in two-dimensional van der Waals (vdW) heterostructures. However, physical processes accompanying the photoinduced spin transfer dynamics on the all-semiconductor ferromagnetic vdW heterostructure remain largely unexplored. Here, we present a computational investigation of the femtosecond laser pulse induced purely electron-mediated spin transfer dynamics at a time scale of less than 50 fs in a vdW heterostructure.
