For light-induced stabilization of microtubules (MTs) to manipulate cells, a photo-reactive diazirine group was conjugated to a Tau-derived peptide, a motif binding on the inside of MTs. Ultraviolet (UV) light irradiation induced significant stabilization of MTs the formation of a covalent bond of the peptide and showed toxicity.

Stable hollow-type microspheres (MSs) have been fabricated using α-synuclein (αS), an amyloidogenic protein, via freeze-induced protein self-assembly. This assembly process involves three steps: rapid freezing to form spherical protein condensates from αS oligomers, frozen annealing to form a crust on the condensate and freeze-drying to create an interior lumen via the three-dimensional (3D) coffee-stain effect. The crust produced during the frozen-annealing step is a β-sheet-mediated protein structure that is presumed to be created at the quasi-liquid layer of the protein-ice interface and thus contributes to the stability of MSs in aqueous solutions at room temperature without any additional surface stabilization.

In recent years, the integration of multifunctional properties into electrospun fabrics has garnered significant attention for applications in wearable devices and smart textiles. A major challenge lies in achieving a balance among intermolecular interactions, structural stability, and responsiveness to external stimuli. In this study, we address this challenge by developing intrinsically healable and photoresponsive electrospun fabrics composed of poly(vinylidene fluoride--hexafluoropropylene) (PVDF-HFP), thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU), and an azobenzene-based ionic liquid ([AzoCMIM][TFSI]).

Quasi-2D perovskites have been pivotal in recent efforts to stabilize perovskite solar cells. Despite the stability boost provided when these materials are introduced in perovskite solar cells, little is known about the intrinsic light and environmental stability of quasi-2D perovskites. In this study, we characterize the photostability of exfoliated quasi-2D perovskite single crystals in air using photoluminescence, infrared, X-ray fluorescence, and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy.

The use of metal single atoms (SAs) as co-catalysts on semiconductors has emerged as a promising technology to enhance their photocatalytic hydrogen production performance. In this study, we describe the deposition of very low amounts of Pt SAs (<0.1 at%) on exfoliated graphitic carbon nitride (C3N4) by a direct Pt-deposition approach from highly dilute chloroplatinic acid precursors.

In prior work, we used LOV2 to create a light-regulated Dihydrofolate Reductase (DHFR) enzyme and showed that structurally disperse mutations in DHFR were able to tune the allosteric response to light. However, it remained unclear how light allosterically activates DHFR, and how disperse mutations modulate the allosteric effect.
