Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients face an increased risk of developing various malignancies due to shared risk factors and underlying systemic inflammation. N-acetylcysteine (NAC) has shown potential anticancer properties in preclinical studies, but clinical evidence in COPD patients is limited. We conducted a nationwide propensity score-matched cohort study using data from Taiwan's National Health Insurance Research Database to evaluate the anticancer effects of NAC in COPD patients.

Radical cystectomy and bladder preservation therapy are effective for muscle-invasive bladder cancer (MIBC); however, many patients over 70 are medically unfit for these options. For such patients, radiotherapy serves as a viable alternative. This study compares survival outcomes of radiotherapy versus supportive care in MIBC patients ineligible for cystectomy or bladder preservation with concurrent chemoradiotherapy.

Objective: Peripheral helper T (Tph) cells, together with plasma cells, are the major pathogenic lymphocytes in the synovium in rheumatoid arthritis (RA). However, whether these cells are involved in RA-associated lung and/or airway disease is unknown.
Methods: Tph cells in sputum were analyzed by flow cytometry and compared with those in synovial fluid and synovial tissue.

Background: Accurate prediction is essential for the effective management of spontaneous pneumothorax (SP). To improve prediction, this study primarily focuses on using simple chest X-rays to predict ipsilateral recurrence and contralateral occurrence of SP.
Methods: All consecutive subjects diagnosed with SP from July 2017 to June 2023 were retrospectively reviewed.

Recurrent events are common in clinical, healthcare, social, and behavioral studies, yet methods for dynamic risk prediction of these events are limited. To overcome some long-standing challenges in analyzing censored recurrent event data, a recent regression analysis framework constructs a censored longitudinal dataset consisting of times to the first recurrent event in multiple pre-specified follow-up windows of length $ \tau $(XMT models). Traditional regression models struggle with nonlinear and multiway interactions, with success depending on the skill of the statistical programmer.
