Background: Addiction to Smartphone usage has psychological and physical impacts. However, the state of spasm of accommodation is unclear in Smartphone abusers.
Methods: We performed a cross-sectional study among adults aged 18-35 years between October 2016 and December 2018. Forty participants were Smartphone abusers according to the Smartphone addiction questionnaire, and 40 participants were non users. We measured auto refraction precycloplegia and postcycloplegia at far for all participants to evaluate the state of spasm of accommodation. We assessed the ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM) parameters including anterior chamber angle (ACA).
Results: There was a significant difference in the odds of having spasm of accommodation between Smartphone abusers compared to non-users (OR = 6.64, 95% CI = 1.73-25.47; adjusted OR = 14.63, 95% CI = 2.99-71.62). The Smartphone abusers and non-users groups had a superior ACA median of 30.45 ± 8.3 vs. 26.75 ± 6.6 (P = 0.04) precycloplegia at far and 31.70 ± 11.8 vs. 31.45 ± 8.3 (P = 0.15) postcycloplegia at far, respectively, demonstrated by the Mann-Whitney U test. There was significant higher difference in the precycloplegic nasal ACA at far in the Smartphone abusers group than the non-users group (mean precycloplegic nasal ACA difference = 3.57, 95% CI = 0.76 - 6.37), demonstrated by the independent t test. Similarly, there was significant higher difference in the postcycloplegic nasal ACA at far (mean postcycloplegic nasal ACA difference = 4.26, 95% CI = 1.33 - 7.19).
Conclusions: Smartphone abusers are in a condition of accommodation spasm. As a result, cycloplegic refraction should be done for Smartphone abusers.

Ciprofloxacin (CIP) is a commonly used antibiotic, but its abuse may cause bacterial resistance, posing a high risk to the environment and human health. Herein, based on the molecular imprinting technology, this study proposed a ratiometric fluorescence sensor employing the "post-doping" strategy, which aims to be rapid, selective, and visually easy-to-use for CIP detection to address antibiotic residues and environmental risks. Specifically, by exploiting the "antenna effect" of lanthanide metal ions (Ln), terbium (III) (Tb) chosen as a fluorescence-assisted functional monomer as well as the red emitting CdTe quantum dots (QDs) as the internal reference signal were introduced into multi-emission Tb-CdTe@SiO@MIPs (TbMIPs).

Introduction: Technology-facilitated sexual violence and abuse (TFSVA) refers to a range of behaviours in which digital technologies are used to facilitate both virtual and face-to-face sexual harm. The proliferation of smartphone usage and increasing internet penetration rates across the world have made it easier for individuals to become perpetrators and victims of TFSVA. Since empirical studies of TFSVA remain limited in the academic arena, and there is an absence of evidence to support the development of a standardised TFSVA measurement, this review aims to explore what TFSVA measurements are currently available and their potential use in measuring TFSVA.

Diazepam (DZP) is a muscle-relaxing, anxiety-relieving sedative drug; nonetheless, it is also an addictive drug that may be abused. This work reports on the development of a novel electrochemical nanosensor for diazepam using SiO-encapsulated-3-mercaptopropionic acid-capped AuZnCeSeS quantum dots (QDs) overcoated with a molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) on screen-printed carbon electrodes (SPCEs). Electrochemical, spectroscopic and electron microscopic characterization of the nanomaterial and modified electrode surface was carried out and is reported herein.

Background: Therapists and their patients increasingly discuss digital data from social media, smartphone sensors, and other online engagements within the context of psychotherapy.
Objective: We examined patients' and mental health therapists' experiences and perceptions following a randomized controlled trial in which they both received regular summaries of patients' digital data (eg, dashboard) to review and discuss in session. The dashboard included data that patients consented to share from their social media posts, phone usage, and online searches.

Objectives: Pregabalin abuse is increasing in prevalence and is associated with significant harm. This study aimed to assess community pharmacists' perceptions of pregabalin abuse and their recommendations to address this issue.
Methods: This was a descriptive cross-sectional study conducted in the Omdurman locality, Khartoum in 2022.
