AI Article Synopsis

  • - This study aimed to examine how often adolescents drink sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs) and its link to oral health issues.
  • - Data from the 2017 Korea Youth Risk Behaviour Survey with nearly 65,000 participants revealed that those who consumed SSBs weekly had more oral symptoms like tooth sensitivity and gum pain.
  • - Findings indicate that higher SSB consumption correlates with more reported oral health problems among adolescents, suggesting a negative impact on their oral health.

Article Abstract

Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the association between the frequency of SSB consumption and the prevalence of oral symptoms in adolescents.

Methods: We analysed the data collected from the 2017 (13th) Korea Youth Risk Behaviour Web-based Survey (KYRBWS). KYRBS collected beverage consumption data from 64,991 Korean adolescents. Self-reported oral symptoms including sensitivity to food, sharp aches and pains in the teeth, and painful or bleeding gums were also collected. Multivariable logistic regression modelling was used to test the association between the frequency of SSB consumption and oral symptoms groups.

Results: It was found that Korean adolescents who consumed SSB at least once a week (94.4%) experienced more subjective oral symptoms (46.5%) even after controlling for confounding variables. In addition, as the frequency of SSB intake in adolescents increased, the subjective oral symptoms increased.

Conclusions: The results of this study clearly revealed that the SSB consumption impacted adolescents' subjective oral symptoms. Compared with those who did not consume SSBs, those who consumed SSBs showed increased for developing subjective oral symptoms.

Effect of high trimline aligners on distalizing mandibular molars: a three-dimensional finite element study.

Eur J Med Res

December 2024

Urumql DW Innovation InfoTech Co., Ltd., Xinjiang, China.

Objective: The primary focus of this investigation was to evaluate the biomechanical effects of high trimline design aligners on the distalization of mandibular molars, employing three-dimensional finite element analysis (3D-FEA). The study concentrated on aspects such as tooth movement, stress distribution, and anchorage control.

Methods: Utilizing Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) data, a detailed 3D geometrical model was constructed for finite element analysis.

Background: A central goal of implementation science is to generate insights that allow evidence-based practices to be successfully applied across diverse settings. However, challenges often arise in preserving programs' effectiveness outside the context of their intervention development. We propose that qualitative data can inform generalizability via elucidating mechanisms of an intervention.

Background: Periodontitis is among the most prevalent inflammatory conditions and greatly impacts oral health. This study aimed to elucidate the role of basement membrane-related genes in the pathogenesis and diagnosis of periodontitis.

Methods: GSE10334 was used for identification of hub genes via the differential analysis, protein-protein interaction network, MCC and DMNC algorithms, and evaluation via LASSO regression and support vector machine analysis to identify basement membrane-related markers in patients with periodontitis.

Background: This retrospective study aimed to investigate the relationships between the radiographic features of impacted maxillary canines (IMCs) and traction duration and the factors affecting treatment success.

Methods: Pre-treatment panoramic radiographs and patient records of 121 consecutive patients with IMCs were analyzed. The measurements included the angle of the IMC with the midline (α-angle), the horizontal position of the IMC relative to the adjacent teeth (S-Sector), the distance from the IMC to the occlusal plane (d-distance), the apex position of the IMC (A), and the vertical height of the IMC relative to the adjacent lateral tooth (V).

Background: Elinzanetant is a dual neurokinin-1,3 receptor antagonist in development for the treatment of menopausal vasomotor symptoms. The objectives of these studies were to characterize the mass balance and biotransformation of elinzanetant.

Methods: In the clinical evaluation, whole blood, plasma, urine, and feces were collected from healthy fasted male volunteers (n = 6) following a single dose of 120 mg [C]-elinzanetant oral suspension for analysis of total radioactivity and metabolite profiling.
