Bone metaplasia or heterotopic ossification of the appendix is an extremely rare condition, which is usually associated with mucinous appendiceal neoplasms. This case describes a young male patient, who presented to the surgical emergency department with clinical and computed tomography signs of acute appendicitis. Laparoscopic appendectomy was performed. The final histopathological examination revealed a bone metaplasia of the distal appendix, without any other associated appendiceal pathology. According to our knowledge and literature review, this is the first such case described in the English literature yet.

Objectives: Melanoma is a highly aggressive and metastatic form of cancer, and the role of exosomal microRNAs (miRNAs) in its progression remains largely unexplored. This study aimed to investigate the effects of melanoma cell-derived exosomal miR-424-5p on angiogenesis and its underlying mechanisms.
Methods: Exosomes were isolated from melanoma cell lines A375 and A2058, and their effects on the proliferation, migration, and angiogenesis of human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) were examined.

Objective: To explore the mechanism of hyperbaric oxygen therapy in inhibiting subchondral bone angiogenesis and delaying the progression of osteoarthritis through the PHD2/HIF-1α signaling pathway.
Methods: Mice were randomly divided into three groups (control group, osteoarthritis group, and hyperbaric oxygen treatment group). The effect of hyperbaric oxygen therapy on osteoarthritis was evaluated using Micro-CT, Safranin O-Fast Green staining, and detection of osteoarthritis inflammation markers (MMP-13, ADAMTS-5, Col2a1, and Aggrecan).

Purpose: Airway disease is the main pathological basis of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), but the underlying mechanisms are unknown. Bone morphogenetic protein-7 (BMP7) is a multi-functional growth factor that belongs to the transforming growth factor superfamily, which affects the regulation of proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis. Previous research has shown that BMP7 is highly expressed in the airway epithelia of patients with COPD, but its role in airway disease has not been fully elucidated.

Background: The early stages of tumor bone metastasis are closely associated with changes in the vascular niche of the bone microenvironment, and abnormal angiogenesis accelerates tumor metastasis and progression. However, the effects of lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) cells reprogrammed by the bone microenvironment on the vascular niche within the bone microenvironment and the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. This study investigates the effects and mechanisms of LUAD cells reprogrammed by the bone microenvironment on endothelial cells and angiogenesis, providing insights into the influence of tumor cells on the vascular niche within the bone microenvironment.
