Background: Synaptic dysfunction plays an important role in Alzheimer's disease (AD) and cognitive decline. We investigated the association between cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) synaptic protein levels and quantitative EEG (qEEG) measures, two modalities to measure synaptic dysfunction in AD pathology. We assessed combined and independent prognostic value of both modalities for cognitive decline along the AD continuum.

Background: Greater occupational complexity may be protective against dementia in later life, but it is unclear if it contributes to cognitive resilience and whether different aspects of occupational complexity are associated with resilience. We examined relationships between occupational complexity related to data, people, and things, and cognitive resilience to neurodegeneration.
Method: 1,699 participants from the Framingham Heart Study Offspring cohort who were aged ≥60 years, had a plasma total tau (t-tau) measure (a marker of neurodegeneration), and a neuropsychological (NP) exam visit within five years of the plasma t-tau measurement were included.

Background: Latin American Countries (LACs) have major health-related inequities due to historical, cultural, and social aspects. These factors have been suggested as important determinants of healthy aging in LACs. Here, we evaluated classic and socioeconomic risk factors for healthy brain aging across five large cohorts of LACs.

Background: The expected seasonal recurrence of (new variants of) COVID-19 and the emergence of other airborne infectious diseases underscore the need for a sustainable healthcare preparedness strategy. It is particularly essential to ensure equitable access to healthcare for individuals with chronic diseases, including dementia and Parkinson's Disease. Moreover, it is vital to provide clinicians and researchers in the neurodegenerative disease fields with resources and infrastructure to ensure continuity of their work, even during a pandemic.

Background: Caring for people with dementia in communities inevitably brings heavy burden for their family caregivers. Senses of positive aspects from caring and proper service support may help shape a healthy care journey for carers. This study aims to evaluate the caregiving burden, positive aspects, and service utilization of informal caregivers for community-living older adults with neurocognitive disorders (NCDs).
