The objective of this systematic review was to characterize the literature regarding the risk factors associated with the development of toxic shock syndrome (TSS) secondary to the use of intrauterine contraceptives (IUCs), as well as patient outcomes. A literature search was conducted spanning origin through December 12, 2022, using Embase and MEDLINE ALL. Primary literature that discussed development of TSS along with the presence of an IUC were included.

CRISPR/Cas9-mediated knockout of GhAMS11 and GhMS188 reveals key roles in tapetal development and pollen exine formation in upland cotton.

Int J Biol Macromol

December 2024

National Key Laboratory of Cotton Bio-breeding and Integrated Utilization, Institute of Cotton Research, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Anyang 455000, Henan, China. Electronic address:

The ABORTED MICROSPORES (AMS) gene is crucial for tapetal cell development and pollen formation, but its role in Upland cotton (Gossypium hirsutum) has not been previously documented. This study identified GhAMS11 as a key transcription factor, with its high expression specifically observed during the S4-S6 stages of anther development, a critical period for tapetal activity and pollen formation. Subcellular localization confirmed that GhAMS11 was located in the nucleus.

Selective termination: a life-saving procedure for complicated monochorionic gestations.

J Perinat Med

December 2024

Fetal Care and Surgery Center (FCSC), Division of Fetal Medicine and Surgery, Boston Children's Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA, USA.

Monochorionic twin pregnancies are a subset of twin pregnancies that face potential complications related to a shared circulation between the fetuses. These complications are related to anastomotic placental vessels connecting the cardiovascular systems of the two fetuses, which can result in significant sequela if one twin experiences intrauterine death. The sudden cardiovascular collapse in this scenario leads to a massive blood shift away from the healthy co-twin, significantly jeopardizing its life and long-term neurodevelopmental outcome.

Abnormal transition from meiosis I to meiosis II induces male sterility in a seedless artificial hybrid of citrus.

Mol Breed

January 2025

National Key Laboratory for Germplasm Innovation & Utilization of Horticultural Crops, College of Horticulture and Forestry Sciences, Huazhong Agricultural University, Wuhan, 430070 Hubei Province China.

Unlabelled: Male sterility is an important trait for breeding and for the seedless fruit production in citrus. We identified one seedling which exhibiting male sterility and seedlessness (named hereafter), from a cross between two fertile parents, with sour orange () as seed parent and Ponkan mandarin () as pollen parent. Analysis using pollen viability staining, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) revealed that the mature pollen of the was aborted, displaying collapse and deformity.
