Aim: The purpose of this study is to predict chronic kidney disease (CKD) in the radiotherapy of abdominal cancers by evaluating clinical and functional assays of normal tissue complication probability (NTCP) models.

Materials And Methods: Radiation renal damage was analyzed in 50 patients with abdominal cancers 12 months after radiotherapy through a clinical estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR). According to the common terminology criteria for the scoring system of adverse events, Grade 2 CKD (eGFR ≤30-59 ml/min/1.73 m) was considered as the radiation therapy endpoint. Modeling and parameter estimation of NTCP models were performed for the Lyman-equivalent uniform dose (EUD), the logit-EUD critical volume (CV), the relative seriality, and the mean dose model.

Results: The confidence interval of the fitted parameters was 95%. The parameter value of D was obtained 22-38 Gy, and the n and s parameters were equivalent to 0.006 -3 and 1, respectively. According to the Akaike's information criterion, the mean dose model predicts radiation-induced CKD more accurately than the other models.

Conclusion: Although the renal medulla consists of many nephrons arranged in parallel, each nephron has a seriality architecture as renal functional subunits. Therefore, based on this principle and modeling results in this study, the whole kidney organs may have a serial-parallel combination or a secret architecture.

Primary cholangiocarcinoma is a rare bile duct epithelial neoplasm that can present with atypical clinical manifestations, complicating its diagnosis. A 62-year-old male showed symptoms suggestive of a complicated hepatic cyst that was later identified as intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma. The patient presented with abdominal discomfort without fever.

Carcinogenesis encompasses processes that lead to increased mutation rates, enhanced cellular division (tumour growth), and invasive growth. Colorectal cancer (CRC) carcinogenesis in carriers of pathogenic APC (path_APC) and pathogenic mismatch repair gene (path_MMR) variants is initiated by a second hit affecting the corresponding wild-type allele. In path_APC carriers, second hits result in the development of multiple adenomas, with CRC typically emerging after an additional 20 years.

Background: Few studies have assessed the safety and efficacy of laparoscopic surgery in patients with metachronous colorectal cancer (MCRC). This study aims to evaluate the safety and outcomes of laparoscopic surgery in MCRC patients who have previously undergone colorectal cancer surgery.

Methods: We compared the short-term outcomes of open versus laparoscopic surgery in patients with MCRC between October 2007 and October 2022.

Background: CA19-9 is a classical tumor marker and plays an important role in the diagnosis of biliary and pancreatic cancer. However, a few cases reported that the tumor maker CA19-9 is abnormally elevated in patients with calculous cholecystitis, but the relation between severity of calculous cholecystitis and serum CA19-9 level are still unknown.

Methods: Total 105 calculous cholecystitis patients from first hospital were collected and divided into high serum CA19-9 group(high group, n = 35) and normal serum CA19-9 group(normal group, n = 70).

18F-FDG PET/CT Versus 18F-FAPI PET/CT in Eosinophilic Liver Infiltration.

Clin Nucl Med

January 2025

From the Department of Nuclear Medicine, Guangzhou Institute of Cancer Research, the Affiliated Cancer Hospital, Guangzhou Medical University.

A 48-year-old man presented with upper abdominal discomfort for 10 days. Abdominal contrast-enhanced CT showed multiple abnormal enhanced masses in liver, suggesting a probability of malignancies. The patient was then enrolled in a clinical trial of comparison of 18F-FDG and 18F-FAPI PET/CT in hepatic lesions.
