Protein secretion is an essential cell process in bacteria, required for cell envelope biogenesis, export of virulence factors, and acquisition of nutrients, among other important functions. In the Sec secretion pathway, signal peptide-bearing precursors are recognized by the SecA ATPase and pushed across the membrane through a translocon channel made of the proteins SecY, SecE, and SecG. The Sec pathway has been extensively studied in the model organism , but the Sec pathways of other bacteria such as the human pathogen differ in important ways from this model.

Unlabelled: Current laboratory protocols for periprosthetic joint infections (PJIs) involve a standard 10- to 14-day incubation period. However, recent evidence indicates considerable variability in the time to diagnosis (TTD) between acute and chronic PJIs. TTD is also influenced by the employed culture media and sample types.

An animal's body mass is said to be indirectly related to its rate of heat loss; that is, smaller animals with higher surface area to volume tend to lose heat faster than larger animals. Thus, thermoregulation should be related to body size, however, generalizable patterns are still unclear. Domestic dogs are a diverse species of endothermic mammals, including a 44-fold difference in body size.

The revised EFSA 2023 Guidance on the risk assessment of plant protection products for birds and mammals emphasises vulnerability as a relevant criterion for focal species (FS) selection rather than prevalence. The EFSA 2023 Guidance suggests to rank FS candidates for each dietary group according to their expected exposure by estimating a species-specific daily dietary dose (DDD). Species experiencing higher exposure would be ranked as potentially more vulnerable and can be identified as FS candidates.

Background: Morphine, a mu-opioid receptor (MOR) agonist commonly utilized in clinical settings alongside chemotherapy to manage chronic pain in cancer patients, has exhibited contradictory effects on cancer, displaying specificity toward certain cancer types and doses.
Objective: The aim of this study was to conduct a systematic assessment and comparison of the impacts of morphine on three distinct cancer models in a preclinical setting.
Methods: Viability and apoptosis assays were conducted on a panel of cancer cell lines following treatment with morphine, chemotherapy drugs alone, or their combination.
