The success of the left ventricular assist device (LVAD) as a treatment for terminal left-side heart failure is still restrained by some severe complications associated with mechanical circulatory support. Pump thrombus still affects many patients. It is associated with high morbidity and mortality. The therapeutic options include augmentation of anticoagulation and antiplatelet medication, intravenous or catheter-guided thrombolysis, and pump exchange. Heart transplantation would be a desirable option in this population, but unfortunately, it is only theoretical given the increasing number of LVAD implants and decreasing number of organ donors. A retrograde washout maneuver may be a treatment option in prepump thrombosis in selected patients. Therefore, the decision should be made on an individual basis after balancing the risks and benefits of different treatment approaches. In this context, we report a case of retrograde washout of prepump thrombus in a patient who has been on HeartWare™ support for more than 3 years, with a successful bailout strategy.

Purpose: To explore the evaluation value of contrast enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) quantitative parameters in ischemic-type biliary lesions after liver transplantation to assist its early-diagnosis.
Methods: Patients who underwent liver transplantation and intravenous CEUS at Beijing Friendship Hospital, Capital Medical University from June 25, 2020 to December 28, 2022 and were diagnosed with Ischemic-type biliary lesions (ITBLs) by Magnetic Resonance Cholangiopancreatography (MRCP) or Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) or Percutaneous Transhepatic Cholangiography (PTC) were prospectively enrolled. SonoLiver software was used to quantitatively analyze the contrast images, transplanted livers with normal biliary tracts as the control group.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is characterized by the loss of nigrostriatal dopaminergic neurons and the presence of Lewy bodies (LB), intraneuronal inclusions mainly composed of α-synuclein (α-Syn) fibrils. Compelling evidence supports that, in PD brains, synapses are the sites where neurodegeneration initiates several years before the manifestation of motor symptoms. Furthermore, the amount of α-Syn deposited at synaptic terminals is several orders greater than that constituting LB.

Background: Competitive leptomeningeal flow (CLF) can be observed immediately after mechanical thrombectomy (MT) reperfusion with retrograde contrast clearing of the distal leptomeningeal branches from non-contrast opacified flow through different vascular territories. We aim to evaluate the frequency of the CLF phenomenon, to determine if it has an association with the degree of leptomeningeal collateral status, and to understand the potentia impact it may have on the final expanded Treatment in Cerebral Ischemia (eTICI) score rating.
Methods: Retrospective analysis of a prospective MT database spanning November 2020 to December 2021.

Adenosine triphosphate (ATP) changes the efficacy of synaptic transmission. Despite recent progress in terms of the roles of purinergic receptors in cerebrocortical excitatory synaptic transmission, their contribution to inhibitory synaptic transmission is unknown. To elucidate the effects of α,β-methylene ATP (αβ-mATP), a selective agonist of P2X receptors (P2XRs), on inhibitory synaptic transmission in the insular cortex (IC), we performed whole-cell patch-clamp recording from IC pyramidal neurons (PNs) and fast-spiking neurons (FSNs) in either sex of VGAT-Venus transgenic rats.

Fast-setting bioactive cements were developed for the convenience of retrograde fillings during endodontic microsurgery. This in vitro study aimed to investigate the effect of irrigation on the washout of relatively fast-setting materials (Biodentine, EndoCem Zr, and MTA HP) in comparison with MTA Angelus White and IRM in an apicectomy model. Washout resistance was assessed using artificial root ends.
