Vitamin A is a fat-soluble micronutrient necessary for the growth of healthy skin and hair. However, both too little and too much vitamin A has deleterious effects. Retinoic acid and retinal are the main active metabolites of vitamin A. Retinoic acid dose-dependently regulates hair follicle stem cells, influencing the functioning of the hair cycle, wound healing, and melanocyte stem cells. Retinoic acid also influences melanocyte differentiation and proliferation in a dose-dependent and temporal manner. Levels of retinoids decline when exposed to ultraviolet irradiation in the skin. Retinal is necessary for the phototransduction cascade that initiates melanogenesis but the source of that retinal is currently unknown. This review discusses new research on retinoids and their effects on the skin and hair.

Background: Canine mast cell tumors (MCT) in the skin are classified into cutaneous MCT (cMCT) and subcutaneous MCT (scMCT) types, which exhibit different clinical behaviors. Although these types have been classified only by histology, preoperative differentiation is important for proper surgical planning.

Rosacea is a chronic inflammatory disease primarily affecting the central facial region, significantly involving the facial blood vessels and the sebaceous gland units associated with hair follicles. The stellate ganglion block (SGB) technique can restore balance to autonomic nervous function by interrupting the impulse conduction of preganglionic and postganglionic sympathetic nerve fibers, thereby alleviating excessive peripheral blood vessel contraction, enhancing tissue blood supply, balancing hormone secretion, and modulating immune responses. SGB has demonstrated remarkable efficacy in treating various skin conditions affecting the head, face, and neck.
