Introduction: Comparing imaging examinations with those previously obtained is considered mandatory in imaging guidelines. To our knowledge, no studies are available on neither the influence, nor the sequence, of prior imaging and reports on diagnostic accuracy using biopsy as the reference standard. Such data are important to minimize diagnostic errors and to improve the preparation of diagnostic imaging guidelines. The aim of our study was to provide such data.

Materials And Methods: A retrospective cohort of 216 consecutive skeletal biopsies from patients with at least 2 different imaging modalities (X-ray, CT and MRI) performed within 6 months of biopsy was identified. The diagnostic accuracy of the individual imaging modality was assessed. Finally, the possible influence of the sequence of imaging modalities was investigated.

Results: No significant difference in the accuracy of the imaging modalities was shown, being preceded by another imaging modality or not. However, the sequence analyses indicate sequential biases, particularly if MRI was the first imaging modality.

Conclusion: The sequence of the imaging modalities seems to influence the diagnostic accuracy against a pathology reference standard. Further studies are needed to establish evidence-based guidelines for the strategy of using previous imaging and reports to improve diagnostic accuracy.

Early cancer detection substantially improves the rate of patient survival; however, conventional screening methods are directed at single anatomical sites and focus primarily on a limited number of cancers, such as gastric, colorectal, lung, breast, and cervical cancer. Additionally, several cancers are inadequately screened, hindering early detection of 45.5% cases.

Aim: Ultrasonography (US) has shown accuracy in imaging healthy periodontium. This study aims to evaluate the feasibility and accuracy of US for estimating dimensions of inflamed periodontium induced by ligature and bacteria.

Methods: Periodontal tissues of maxillary as well as mandibular premolars and molars in six female mini pigs were treated with ligature and three strains of bacteria for 4-10 weeks.

This study investigates the prognostic value of serum biomarkers PD-L1 and IGFBP-2 in patients with esophageal carcinoma. It finds a significant positive correlation between these biomarkers and established tumor markers CEA and CYFRA21-1. The 3-year survival rate for the patient cohort was 45.

Purpose: The study aimed to develop a deep learning model for rapid, automated measurement of full-spine X-rays in adolescents with Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis (AIS). A significant challenge in this field is the time-consuming nature of manual measurements and the inter-individual variability in these measurements. To address these challenges, we utilized RTMpose deep learning technology to automate the process.

Enhancing newborn screening sensitivity and specificity for missed NICCD using selected amino acids and acylcarnitines.

Orphanet J Rare Dis

January 2025

Department of Genetics and Metabolism, Children's Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine, National Clinical Research Center for Child Health, No. 3333 Binsheng Road, Binjiang District, Hangzhou, 310053, Zhejiang, China.

Purpose: To enhance the detection rate of Neonatal Intrahepatic Cholestasis caused by Citrin Deficiency (NICCD) through newborn screening (NBS), we analyzed the metabolic profiles of missed patients and proposed a more reliable method for early diagnosis.

Methods: In this retrospective study, NICCD patients were classified into "Newborn Screening" (64 individuals) and "Missed Screening" (52 individuals) groups. Metabolic profiles were analyzed using the non-derivatized MS/MS Kit, and genetic mutations were identified via next-generation sequencing and confirmed by Sanger sequencing.
