Effective glucose surveillance provides a strong guarantee for the high-quality development of human health. Au nanomaterials possess compelling applications in nonenzymatic electrochemical glucose biosensors owing to superior catalytic performances and intriguing biocompatibility properties. However, it has been a grand challenge to accurately control the architecture and composition of Au nanomaterials to optimize their optical, electronic, and magnetic properties for further improving the performance of electrocatalytic sensing. Herein, ultra-low content Bi-anchored Au aerogels are synthesized via a one-step reduction strategy. Benefiting from the unique structure of aerogels as well as the synergistic effect between Au and Bi, the optimized AuBi aerogels greatly boost the activity of glucose oxidation compared with Au aerogels. Under plasmon resonance excitation, bimetallic AuBi aerogels with wider photics-dependent properties further show plasmon-promoted glucose electro-oxidation activity, which is derived from the photothermal and photoelectric effects caused by the local surface plasmon resonance. Thanks to the enhanced performance, a nonenzymatic electrochemical glucose biosensor is constructed to detect glucose with high sensitivity. This plasmon-promoted electrocatalytic activity through the synergetic strategy of bimetallic aerogels has potential applications in various research fields.

Due to their ease of synthesis and large specific surface area, Ni(OH) nanosheets have emerged as promising electrochemical sensing materials, attracting significant attention in recent years. Herein, a series of oxy-hydroxides based on Ni(OH) nanosheets, including NiO/Ni(OH)@NF and (MNi)O/Ni(OH)@NF (M = Co, Fe, or Cr), are successfully synthesized the electrochemical oxidation and incorporation strategies. Electrochemical tests demonstrate that these Ni(OH)-based oxy-hydroxides exhibit excellent electrochemical oxidation activity for glucose in alkaline electrolyte.

Nickel-based metal-organic frameworks, denoted as three-dimensional nickel trimesic acid frameworks (3D Ni-TMAF), are gaining significant attention for their application in nonenzymatic glucose sensing due to their unique properties. Ni-MOFs possess a high surface area, tunable pore structures, and excellent electrochemical activity, which makes them ideal for facilitating electron transfer and enhancing the catalytic oxidation of glucose. This research describes a new electrochemical enzyme-mimic glucose biosensor in biological solutions that utilizes 3D nanospheres Ni-TMAF created layer-by-layer on a highly porous nickel substrate.

Accurate and rapid monitoring of the glucose concentration in blood is essential for the prevention and treatment of diabetes. However, existing glucose sensors still have room for improvement in terms of sensitivity, selectivity, and stability. Benefiting from the fully exposed metal sites and uniform coordination environment, single-atom catalysts (SACs) have exhibited unique electrochemical sensing performances and received extensive attention in blood glucose detection.

Non-enzymatic glucose detection is an effective strategy to control the blood glucose level of diabetic patients. A novel hierarchical core-shell structure of nickel hydroxide shell coated copper hydroxide core based on copper foam (Ni(OH)@Cu(OH)-CF) was fabricated and derived from NiO@CuO-CF for glucose sensing. Cyclic voltammetry and amperometry experiments have demonstrated the efficient electrochemical catalysis of glucose under alkaline conditions.
