Two brothers had nonobstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, mental retardation, and vacuolar myopathy, and their mother died of cardiopathy at age 31. Seven families with this syndrome have been described; heredity appears to be X-linked dominant or autosomal dominant, with different expressivity in males and females. The biochemical cause of this lysosomal storage disease is unknown.

Objective: The study objective was to assess longitudinal postoperative health-related quality of life among patients with adult congenital heart disease facilitated by a novel electronic medical record-based patient-reported outcomes follow-up platform.
Methods: From January 2022 to October 2023, 559 patients with adult congenital heart disease underwent cardiac surgery; 491 (88%) completed a 23-element health-related quality of life questionnaire covering 3 domains (physical, mental, and social) yielding 911 assessments. Automated questionnaires via electronic medical record were sent at 7 days preoperatively and postoperatively at 1, 3, 6, and 12 months.

We present a case of a 73-year-old woman with a medical history significant for hyperlipidemia, on pravastatin, who developed Takotsubo cardiomyopathy following a diagnosis of osteoporosis. She presented to the Emergency Department with acute transient left arm pain that resolved spontaneously. Investigations revealed elevated troponin levels, non-specific electrocardiographic changes, no significant coronary artery disease on angiography, and left ventricular systolic dysfunction, findings consistent with Takotsubo cardiomyopathy.

While earlier post-mortem studies show involvement of the central nervous system in 71% of patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), involvement intravitam is rare. A 72-year-old man with untreated, minimally symptomatic CLL developed subacute-onset encephalopathy and presented with severe hyponatremia and stress-induced cardiomyopathy. His initial head computed tomography scan was unremarkable.

Doxorubicin (DOX)-induced cardiomyopathy (DIC) greatly limits its clinical application of the anticancer drug. Therefore, there is an immediate necessity to undertake intervention studies to minimize DIC, encompassing the screening of regulatory compounds and delving into the underlying regulatory mechanisms. A growing body of research suggests that ferroptosis is an essential process in the development of DIC.
