A seven-month-old male blue and yellow macaw () was presented with an inability to move the maxillary beak after flying into a clothesline. Unsuccessful attempts to reduce the beak were performed, first by the owner at home and later within the same day by the referring veterinarian under general anesthesia. The patient was referred for assessment and treatment 5 days later.

An estimated 200 million people are currently infected with schistosomiasis and an additional 800 million reside in high transmission-risk areas in 78 endemic countries. In this report we describe a functional enzymatic assay based on the core calpain antigen (Sm-p80) of the schistosomiasis vaccine, SchistoShield®. A 44 kDa soluble variant of the core Sm-p80 antigen (B7), was assessed for its enzymatic activity using a fluorescent synthetic substrate.

Advance medical directives allow patients to plan in advance their medical decisions in the event of incurable diseases or at the end of their lives when they have the capacity to make such decisions.This institutional design not only breaks through the traditional medical decision-making model and enables patients to make autonomous decisions across time and space,but also demonstrates the law's respect for and protection of patients' right to make autonomous decisions and their dignity of life.The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region submitted the bill related to advance medical directives to the Legislative Council for review at the end of 2023.
