A series of hydrazones, 2-cyano-N'-(4-diethylamino-2-hydroxybenzylidene)acetohydrazide (1), N'-(5-bromo-2-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzylidene)-3-chlorobenzohydrazide monohydrate (2·H2O), N'-(2-hydroxy-3-methylbenzylidene)-4-nitrobenzohydrazide (3), and N'-(2-hydroxy-3-trifluoromethoxybenzylidene)-4-nitrobenzohydrazide (4), were prepared and structurally characterized by elemental analysis, IR and 1H NMR spectra, and single crystal X-ray determination. Xanthine oxidase inhibitory activities of the compounds were studied. Among the compounds, 2-cyano-N'-(4-diethylamino-2-hydroxybenzylidene)acetohydrazide shows the most effective activity. Docking simulation was performed to insert the compounds into the crystal structure of xanthine oxidase at the active site to investigate the probable binding modes.

Background: Titanium (Ti) biomaterials are widely used in the surgical management of maxillofacial trauma, in oncology and orthognathic surgery. Although Ti is considered highly biocompatible, adverse reactions at the implant site have been reported in numerous clinical studies. However, the influence of Ti mandibular implants on glutathione metabolism, nitrosative stress and systemic inflammation has not been investigated to date.

In chronic kidney disease (CKD), hyperuricemia is a common phenomenon, presumably due to reduced renal clearance of uric acid. This study investigated the effect of xanthine oxidase (XO) inhibitors allopurinol and febuxostat to prevent oxidative stress in the kidney of two-kidney, one-clip (2K1C) rats. In this investigation, 2K1C rats were used as an experimental animal model for kidney dysfunction.

Hydrogen sulfide (HS) is an important gasotransmitter that regulates a wide range of pathophysiological processes. Higher uric acid levels are associated with an increased risk of metabolic diseases. The causal mechanism linking HS signalling and uric acid metabolism in skeletal muscles has not yet been elucidated.

Unlabelled: The aim of this study was to utilize four rice pasta by-products (RPB), including white rice pasta, black jasmine rice pasta, red jasmine rice pasta and brown rice pasta, to ferment into four vinegars. The dynamic variations during fermentation and their quality were evaluated. During alcoholic fermentation, the saccharified substrates were fermented with for 12 days, resulting in an alcohol yield of approximately 10% (v/v) after 4 days of fermentation.

This meta-analysis investigates the potential of allopurinol to prevent contrast-induced nephropathy (CIN), a common and serious complication of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). CIN is particularly prevalent among high-risk populations, including patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) or acute coronary syndrome (ACS), where the administration of contrast agents can exacerbate renal injury. Allopurinol, a xanthine oxidase inhibitor, is known for its dual action in reducing oxidative stress and uric acid production, positioning it as a promising therapeutic candidate to mitigate CIN.
