Background: IMA is a novel marker to consider in ischemic conditions. The initial stages of pregnancy represent a physiological ischemic status. IMA levels may be changed when there is suspicion of early pregnancy complications because of increased oxidative stress.

Aim: We aimed to determine and compare IMA values in cases of ectopic and healthy pregnancies as well as early pregnancy loss.

Methods: This prospective case control study population (n = 91) consisted of early pregnancy loss (n = 28), ectopic pregnancy (n = 28), and an intracavitary early healthy pregnancy (n = 35). The serum IMA levels were compared in these groups.

Results: Demographic parameters were similar and there was no significant difference between the three groups in terms of serum IMA concentrations.

Conclusion: We suggested that IMA cannot be used clinically for the diagnosis and follow up of early pregnancy complications during the first five to six gestational weeks.

The brain develops most rapidly during pregnancy and early neonatal months. While prior electrophysiological studies have shown that aperiodic brain activity undergoes changes across infancy to adulthood, the role of gestational duration in aperiodic and periodic activity remains unknown. In this study, we aimed to bridge this gap by examining the associations between gestational duration and aperiodic and periodic activity in the EEG power spectrum in both neonates and toddlers.

Purpose: Acute fatty liver of pregnancy (AFLP) is a severe complication that can occur in the third trimester or immediately postpartum, characterized by rapid hepatic failure. This study aims to explore the changes in portal vein blood flow velocity and liver function during pregnancy, which may assist in the early diagnosis and management of AFLP.

Methods: This longitudinal study was conducted at a tertiary healthcare center with participants recruited from routine antenatal check-ups.

Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) refers to varying degrees of abnormal glucose metabolism that occur during pregnancy and excludes patients previously diagnosed with diabetes. GDM is a unique among the four subtypes of diabetes classified by the international World Health Organization standards. Although GDM patients constitute a small proportion of the total number of diabetes cases, the incidence of GDM has risen significantly over the past decade, posing substantial risk to pregnant women and infants.

The study by Cao aimed to identify early second-trimester biomarkers that could predict gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) development using advanced proteomic techniques, such as Isobaric tags for relative and absolute quantitation isobaric tags for relative and absolute quantitation and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry. Their analysis revealed 47 differentially expressed proteins in the GDM group, with retinol-binding protein 4 and angiopoietin-like 8 showing significantly elevated serum levels compared to controls. Although these findings are promising, the study is limited by its small sample size ( = 4 per group) and lacks essential details on the reproducibility and reliability of the protein quantification methods used.

Avascular necrosis (AVN) of the hip, a rare cause of pelvic pain in the third trimester of pregnancy, often presents with nonspecific symptoms that resemble common musculoskeletal conditions. This ambiguity, coupled with concerns about the safety of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) during pregnancy, can hinder timely diagnosis. We report a unique case of a 32-year-old primigravida diagnosed with a hip fracture and bilateral AVN of the femoral head in the immediate postpartum period, a complication seemingly not previously documented in pregnant patients.
