The Gram-positive strain R79, isolated from the rhizosphere of young M26 apple rootstocks, was investigated by a polyphasic taxonomic approach. Phylogenetic identification based on the full-length 16S rRNA gene sequence revealed highest 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity to the type strains of Rhodococcus wratislaviensis (99.6%) and Rhodococcus opacus (99.2%) followed by Rhodococcus imtechensis (98.9%). All other 16S rRNA gene sequence similarities were below 98.65%. A phylogenomic tree calculated based on a whole-genome sequence also showed a distinct clustering with the type strain of Rhodococcus koreensis. Average nucleotide identity (ANI) values between whole-genome sequences of R79 and the closest related type strains were below 95% supported the novel species status. The DNA G + C content of R79 was 67.24% mol. Predominant fatty acids were C C and C. The strain contained MK8-H as the major respiratory quinone. The polar lipid profile consists of diphosphatidylglycerol and phosphatidylethanolamine, as well as of some unidentified lipids. The peptidoglycan type of the strain is A1γ meso-diaminopimelic acid. Based on the obtained genotypic and phenotypic, including chemotaxonomic data, we conclude that R79 represents a novel species of the genus Rhodococcus, for which the name Rhodococcus pseudokoreensis sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is R79 (= DSM 113102 = LMG 32444 = CCM 9183).

Uropathogens, particularly bacteria, can infect any part of the urinary tract and cause bacteriuria. Our study aimed to examine the antibiotic-resistant profile, associated risk factors, and phenotypic and genotypic features of ESBL, carbapenemase, and mcr resistance genes in multidrug-resistant bacteria. Samples were inoculated on culture media, identified using standard biochemical tests, and species confirmation was performed via 16S rRNA gene amplification.

Background: Zostera marina is an important ecosystem engineer influencing shallow water environments and possibly shaping the microbiota in surrounding sediments and water. Z. marina is typically found in marine systems, but it can also proliferate under brackish conditions.

The microbiota inhabiting the surface of fish mucosal tissue play important roles in the nutrition, metabolism and immune system of their host. However, most investigations on microbial symbionts have focused on the fish gut, but the microbiota associated with external mucosal tissues (such as the skin and gill) is poorly understood. This study characterised the traits and dynamic of microbial communities associated with the skin, gill and gut of large yellow croaker (Larimichthys crocea) culturing with net enclosures or pens at different sampling times (with seasonal transition).

Background: The observed growth variability of different aquaculture species in captivity hinders its large-scale production. For the sandfish Holothuria scabra, a tropical sea cucumber species, there is a scarcity of information on its intestinal microbiota in relation to host growth, which could provide insights into the processes that affect growth and identify microorganisms with probiotic or biochemical potential that could improve current production strategies. To address this gap, this study used 16 S rRNA amplicon sequencing to characterize differences in gut and fecal microbiota among large and small juveniles reared in floating ocean nurseries.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), the medicinal leech is vital for treatments to promote blood circulation and eliminate blood stasis. However, the prevalence of counterfeit leech products in the market undermines the quality and efficacy of these remedies. Traditional DNA barcoding techniques, such as the COI barcode, have been limited in their application due to amplification challenges.
