Lung cancer remains a predominant cause of cancer-related deaths, with notable disparities in incidence and outcomes across racial and gender groups. This study addresses these disparities by developing a computational framework leveraging explainable artificial intelligence (XAI) to identify both patient- and cohort-specific biomarker genes in lung cancer. Specifically, we focus on two lung cancer subtypes, Lung Adenocarcinoma (LUAD) and Lung Squamous Cell Carcinoma (LUSC), examining distinct racial and sex-specific cohorts: African American males (AAMs) and European American males (EAMs).

Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is the predominant nonmelanocytic skin cancer, with preservation of both function and aesthetics being essential during tumor removal. Existing surgical margin guidelines primarily target ill-defined BCCs prevalent in Western countries. Therefore, this study aims to demonstrate the efficacy of surgical removal, propose modified guidelines for wide excision tailored to Asian patients, and share experiences with various reconstruction methods.

The effectiveness of poultry vaccination in preventing the transmission of highly pathogenic avian influenza viruses (AIVs) has been debated, and its impact on wild birds remains uncertain. Here, we reconstruct the movements of H5 subtype AIV lineages among vaccinated poultry, unvaccinated poultry, and wild birds, worldwide, from 1996 to 2023. We find that there is a time lag in viral transmission among different host populations and that movements from wild birds to unvaccinated poultry were more frequent than those from wild birds to vaccinated poultry.

We report the features of spontaneous bilateral thyroid follicular cell carcinoma in a 10-year-old male beagle. Necropsy revealed bilateral masses on the trachea, corresponding to the left and right sides of the thyroid gland. The masses were elastic, encapsulated, and distinct, with no connecting tumor tissues between them.
