While Julian S. Huxley's role in the Eugenics Society is well known, the ways in which his scientific research program intimately intertwined with his broader social views is sometimes overlooked. This paper analyzes Huxley's earlier and later research centering Individual (1912) and Modern Synthesis (1942) as two case studies in the context of his larger body of work.

A central paradigm of nonequilibrium physics concerns the dynamics of heterogeneity and disorder, impacting processes ranging from the behavior of glasses to the emergent functionality of active matter. Understanding these complex mesoscopic systems requires probing the microscopic trajectories associated with irreversible processes, the role of fluctuations and entropy growth, and the timescales on which nonequilibrium responses are ultimately maintained. Approaches that illuminate these processes in model systems may enable a more general understanding of other heterogeneous nonequilibrium phenomena, and potentially define ultimate speed and energy cost limits for information processing technologies.

Multimedia learning theory suggests that the use of images in the classroom enhances both cognitive and constructive learning. Finding the appropriate images for medical presentations can be challenging due to copyright and privacy issues. Artificial intelligence (AI) image generation is a newly available technology that offers a great advantage to medical educators.

Bird-like flapping-wing aerial vehicles (BFAVs) have attracted significant attention due to their advantages in endurance, range, and load capacity. For a long time, biologists have been studying the enigma of bird flight to understand its mechanism. In contrast, aviation designers focus more on bionic flight systems.

Post femtosecond laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis corneal flap inversion trauma is an exceptionally rare and challenging complication in ophthalmology, highlighted by a case involving a 29-year-old woman who suffered an eye injury from ice chips 10 months after undergoing bilateral femtosecond laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis surgery. The injury led to a corneal flap inversion and melting, exacerbated by a delay in seeking treatment due to the pandemic. When she finally presented for medical attention, her vision was severely compromised, with dense epithelial ingrowth obstructing the visual axis or blocking the pupillary entrance.
